A fascinating thread of U. Navy history with this group. Harold Leslie Patterson from Lafayette, Indiana enlisted in the U. Navy in July 1936, achieved the rank of Chief Machinist Mate, was commissioned as Ensign in October 1943, and ultimately achieved the rank of Lieutenant. He served during WWII and the Korean War. A pre-WWII enlisted man who became an officer during WWII and served active duty in the Navy until his retirement in 1956. During his 20-year career in the Navy, Harold Leslie Patterson was assigned to the USS Relief (AH-1), USS Hovey (DMS-11), USS Prairie (AD-15), and the USS Mindanao (ARG-3). There is a lot of information on the USS Mindanao and USS Mount Hood on the internet. Also, some folks of the US Militaria Forum blog site have posted considerable research on Harold Leslie Patterson. Just do an internet search on “Harold Leslie Patterson” + “Navy”. Included in this lot are the following items that were found together. Navy Good Conduct Medal grouping with the GCM engraved “Harold Leslie Patterson 1940″ with authentic pre-WWII period engraving, along with the American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. Two sets of WWII / Korean war era accompanying service/ribbon bars to the above medals, with additional bars for Philippine Liberation and various Korean War era awards. It is clearly silver due to its age and extensive tarnish. It was found in the accompanying Anson case with label 1/20 12kt gold filled, but I have my doubts that this case was original to this particular hat insignia. One pair of WWII era USN sterling H+H Hilborn-Hamburger Inc. Lieutenant collar insignia, smaller variety, with clutch pin backs. One pair of WWII era USN sterling lieutenant insignia, larger variety with old screw-back design. These are heavy construction, weighing 10 grams each. The screw back nuts are missing. (The total sterling silver insignia weight for this lot is well over one troy ounce). Business card of Harold Leslie Patterson, US Navy, Lt. This is a fascinating historical U. Navy group covering the 20-year career of a pre-WWII enlisted man who achieved the rank of Lieutenant, serving in both WWII and Korea.

This listing is more aimed for those who seek to preserve history almost lost to time. Now found within the folds of modern marketplaces, I attempt to find as much information about their service, along with photos, obituaries, any other information pertaining to the individual. May God bless those past and present who sacrifice so much for us, and may their sacrifice never be in vain. This is the Army Good Conduct Medal that is named to Refugio H Villarreal. He was born on either November 28th or December 1st 1924 in Arizona (There is conflicting information on his birth date, but his death date, SSN, and service number line up), moving to Los Angeles as a farmhand on a fruit farm before registering his draft card and enlisting in the US Army October or November of 1943. He served outside the United States and discharged on November 7, 1945, serving two years. It is unknown where or who he served with as information is sparse. If you cross reference the screenshots you’ll see information is consistent and inconsistent, though the likely chance of two people with the same name, surname, and middle initial being born three days away from each other and enlisting on the same exact day is unlikely. Refugio died on September 4th 1980 and is buried at Oakdale Memorial Park in Glendora, California. His Army Good Conduct Medal. Replacement Period WWII Victory Ribbon and Honorable Discharge Pin. Copy of his draft card. Copies of all documents in the photos.
