Breaking up a big collection that took many years to find. WW1 bronze death plaque in memory of. 41771 Pte Richard Alexander Clark 8th (Service) Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment was. KILLED IN ACTION on 27 May 1918. Richard was born at Stockton-on-Tees, Durham, on 25 Jan 1899 to Annie Clark. He first enlisted in the 2/1st Yorkshire Hussars on 11 Nov 1916. His address was 13 Goxhill Street, Baslingthorpe Lane, Leeds. And he was a’leather worker’. He was later given a compulsory transfer to the 8th Leicestershire Regiment. The War Diary shows that they took over positions to the East of the Aisne – Marne Canal on 20 May 1918. During the time they were there the Allies faced an overwhelming German attack. Despite fierce fighting that lasted for several days they were forced back with losses of 15000 fatalities. Body must have been lost but he is remembered with honour at the Soissons Memorial – where 4000 officers and men killed nearby have no known graves. For his service in France his family would also have received the British War Medal and Allied Victory Medal (not included in the listing) – a great opportunity to reunite with the medals if you have them. Also comes with a copy of the King’s letter of condolence that would have accompanied the plaque and copies of research. Please feel free to ask questions and request further images. WW1 bronze death plaque in memory of. With his BRITISH WAR MEDAL and VICTORY MEDAL named as issued to. Also comes with copies of his medal index card and medal roll showing that this was his full medal entitlement and that he served in the 2nd/5th Battalion Territorial Force – raised in Bury, Lancashire. James was born on 21 Jul 1893 at Radcliffe, Lancashire, to John and Martha Ann Crompton. He married Eliza in 1913 and they lived at. 53 Bank Top, Radcliffe. He worked as a’carter’. Pte Crompton died from wounds received IN ACTION from which he died. His body must have been lost because he has no known grave and is remembered on the TYNE COT MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING IN BELGIUM. His death was assumed as being 20 Sep 1917. Also comes with A PHOTO of James and Eliza with their child, and some research, also a copy of the King’s letter of condolence and copy memorial scroll that would have accompanied the plaque. WW1 bronze death plaque in memory of. In its original cardboard box of issue, with his 1914-15 STAR; BRITISH WAR MEDAL and VICTORY MEDAL, named as issued to. Comes with a good copy of the King’s Letter of Condolence that would have accompanied the plaque, and a copy of his medal index card. In superb uncleaned condition. John was born at Salford, Lancashire in 1897. In 1911 he was living at 46 Elton Street, Lower Broughton, Salford, and he was an’errand boy’. He enlisted at Manchester and served in the 2nd Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers. He entered France on 17 May 1915. During the Battle of the Somme John was KILLED IN ACTION aged 19 – DEATH PRESUMED ON OR SINCE 20 JUL 1916. His body must have been lost on the battlefield as he has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme – 72337 missing soldiers are named on the Memorial. WW1 plaque to 24/232 Private John Padden. John enlisted on November 6th 1914 and lived in Sandgate, Newcastle. He served with 24th (1st Tyneside Irish) Batallion, Northumberland Fusiliers. 103rd Brigade / 34th Division. He died, age 19, on the first day of the Somme, 1st July 1916. He was killed during an attack on German positions south of La Boiselle. He is named on the Thiepval Memorial. Plaque is in nice, unpolished condition.
