Elizabeth Sharp, of 8, Guildhall St. Medals and death plaque, very rare in frame with photograph of the soldier. Strong solid wooden frame, size. 22″ x 16″ x 3/4. Backing is lightly damaged. Breaking up a big collection that took many years to find. WW1 bronze death plaque in memory of. 41771 Pte Richard Alexander Clark 8th (Service) Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment was. KILLED IN ACTION on 27 May 1918. Richard was born at Stockton-on-Tees, Durham, on 25 Jan 1899 to Annie Clark. He first enlisted in the 2/1st Yorkshire Hussars on 11 Nov 1916. His address was 13 Goxhill Street, Baslingthorpe Lane, Leeds. And he was a’leather worker’. He was later given a compulsory transfer to the 8th Leicestershire Regiment. The War Diary shows that they took over positions to the East of the Aisne – Marne Canal on 20 May 1918. During the time they were there the Allies faced an overwhelming German attack. Despite fierce fighting that lasted for several days they were forced back with losses of 15000 fatalities. Body must have been lost but he is remembered with honour at the Soissons Memorial – where 4000 officers and men killed nearby have no known graves. For his service in France his family would also have received the British War Medal and Allied Victory Medal (not included in the listing) – a great opportunity to reunite with the medals if you have them. Also comes with a copy of the King’s letter of condolence that would have accompanied the plaque and copies of research. Please feel free to ask questions and request further images. This genuine WW1 World War One death plaque measures 120mm (5) across and comes complete with its original cardboard holder as well as the star medal and the Royal letters with their original postal tube. The medal is engraved 2733 Pte J. Tuckey Rif Brig ” and the plaque carries the full name ” James Joseph Tuckey and the paperwork is to L/Cpl James Joseph Tuckey Rifle Brigade, with the postal tube addressed to Mr J Tuckey. It all came from a house clearance and is completely un-researched and fresh to the market with the medal and the plaque in good condition and the paperwork has clearly been kept tightly rolled in the postal tube for many years, please see photos.
