WW1 bronze death plaque in memory of. With his ALLIED VICTORY MEDAL named as issued to. Also comes with a photo believed to be James, copies of research, the Battalion War Diary, memorial scroll, War Graves memorial, his medal index card and medal roll showing that he was also entitled to a 1914 Star and British War Medal. James was born in Bolton, Lancashire, about 1880. He is understood to have served in the South African War with the 5th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers and was awarded the Queen’s South Africa Medal. He married Margaret Ann in 1902. By 1911 they were living at. 26 Waterside, Bolton , with their 3 children. And James worked as a stone. The research suggests he continued serving in the 3rd Special Reserves Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, and was a serjeant with 17 years service. The 3rd Battalion provided reinforcements for the two Regular Army battalions in time of War. It’s also stated he gave up his rank so he could get to’the front’. He was posted to the 2nd Battalion in Belgium and was KILLED IN ACTION when’SHOT BY SNIPERS’ in the trenches at TANCREZ FARM, PLOEGSTEERT, on the 19th/20th Dec 1914. Two other soldiers were wounded by snipers at the same time. James was buried at Tancrez Farm Cemetery – see War Diary. The plaque, medal and photo came directly from the family some years ago. Both are in excellent condition. At some time the plaque had a chain soldered to the back for displaying it and still has traces of the solder on the back. This does not detract in any way from the appearance of the front as it can’t be seen. The Victory Medal is on an original piece of ribbon with a small ring attached to the top of the ribbon for display purposes. The photo shows James when he was a sergeant and is wearing a medal ribbon South Africa Medal? Please feel free to ask questions and request further images. Please check out my other listings for.
