ORIGINAL WW1 TRIO AND SILVER Q. STAFF NURSE DAISY THOMAS. SERVED AT CUMBALLA WAR HOSPITAL, BOMBAY, INDIA. Consisting of 1914/15 Star, British War Medal and Victory medal. Mounted on Original pin backed ribbon bar. All correctly named to’ S. THOMAS’ (See Photographs) As well as a Silver hallmarked, Birmingham 1916 Q. Medal or cape badge, mounted seperatly on its own pin backed bar. Staff Nurse Daisy Thomas. Born: February 13th 1887 in Bishopston, Bristol. She was educated at St. Pauls School & Fairfield Road Higher Grade School Bristol (Built 1898). She trained as a nurse at Eastville Infirmary from April 29th. 1909 to June 14th 1912. She spent 3 years as a probationer and 2 years as a charge nurse. Before starting at The Hospital Newton Abbot, South Devon, on June 16th 1912. Nurse Thomas offered her services as a candidate for appointment with QAIMNSR on the 31st of December 1914 and. Enlisted for service with Queen Marys Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve. On 23rd of February 1915. Her address is given as The Hospital Newton Abbot. She served in India at The Cumballa War Hospital, Bombay, returning for three months leave to England in October 1916. While waiting for a return posting to India she worked at the Beaufort War Hospital from the 26th January 1917, in her native Bristol. On the 8th of August 1918 she was back in India until her contract expired on 22nd of February 1919. The Photo’s speak volumes and what you see is what you get. For sale here is a great looking WW2 Russian Order Of The Red Star. The Order is complete with screwback disc. The Order is in excellent condition with only a bit of almost unnoticeable damage at the very tip of the 9 0′ clock arm of the star. The badge has a dark patina and a great overall look. The disc has a bit of wobble at the top of the post, but smooths out as it goes down. The back of the star is marked with a maker mark and has an early six digit serial number of 794941. Amazing WW2 genuine Arctic Convoy full size group of 5 plus two Russian awards to S/T William Barker RN. Churchill called it “the worst journey in the world” The Q ships made perilous trips sending supplies to Russia at the mercy of wolf packs and aircraft. Beautifully framed contemporary 1939-45, Atlantic (F&G bar) Burma Stars, and War medal with original ribbons. On reverse the recipient has written names of each medal and but D-Day for his F&G bar. Medal Office official 100% genuine issue Arctic Star in black presentation box labelled to SSX30228 W Barker. Once you have seen one of these you’ll spot the rubbish that has proliferated as copies. Mr Barker was invited (see envelope and original official embassy letter) to the Russian Embassy London to receive the Medal of Ushakov, this is boxed in plush velvet presentation case and a separate certificate maroon booklet named to William Barker the medal, booklet and certificate are numbered 2114. He also received the 70th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-45. This in a presentation case and has 2 certificate in his name and numbered 0318078. Wonderful complete group to a man who more than did his bit. Worthy of more research and would be a great addition to a collection or as an investment as Arctic Stars with complete groups including Russian awards will very hard to find.
