RARE Original pre WWI Brooklyn New York Militia / National Guard 23rd Regiment Iron Cross Medal #d. This Cross is on its original Ribbon and pin back Top Bar Brooch. This Cross is Magnetic, as it is made of Iron for the Iron Brigade and serial numbered on the reverse’874′, the Cross is approx 1.5 inch and nearly 4 inches overall in length including Ribbon and Brooch. Served in Pennsylvania in 1863 Gettysburg Campaign. The Medal is in Very Good condition overall, scanned near a quarter to better display the size of the Cross (see scans).
WW1 PENNSYLVANIA NATIONAL GUARD GENERAL THOMAS J. WITH ORIGINAL RIBBON AND RIBBON PIN SUSPENSION. America entered the war during the last two years. The division took part in six major campaigns in France and Belgium resulting in more than 14,000 battle casualties. With its entry into the war, the American forces helped turn the tide to the Allied victory. On July 15, 1918, elements of the division beat back German attacks along the Marne River. Pockets of division Soldiers were surrounded and cut off but fought at the company and platoon level in a ferocious defense of their positions, beating their way through German lines and back to secondary defensive positions. The 28th Division’s defiant stand earns its soldiers the moniker “Men of Iron” from General of the Armies John Pershing, commander of the Allied Armies.
ORIGINAL 1907 PATTERN UNITED STATES ARMY NATIONAL GUARD PISTOL EXPERT BADGE, PIN-BACK W/ “C” CATCH. The US Army specified the first pistol qualification badges for National Guard troops in 1907. To set them apart from Regular Army badges, the army made them is a gold color that regulations called bronze. At this time the Regular Army did not have any pistol badges. Regulations allowed these bronze badges until 1914 when only the pistol expert remained, and that lasted only one more year. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do for you!
