Up for sale is an outstanding air medal name engraved to a veteran of 3 wars. This veteran served in WW2, Korea, and finally Vietnam. Included with this medal is the original box it was sent in, as well as the ribbon bar and lapel pin. Also included is printouts of the research I was able to find on the veteran. This is a tremendous piece, and deserved to be in the home of a collector who will appreciate this vet. Very nice 3 war veteran medal! Please look over all the pictures carefully to judge the item for yourself. Medals are from the estate of naval aircrew member Clifford White. White served as an Observer during WW2 and later was part of a reserve unit during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Nothing further is known and group requires more research. This uniform belong to John T. Williamson who served during World War II and Korean War as a fighter pilot. During WWII he served in the VMF-482 and VMF-471. He served in a few fighter squadrons belonging to 2nd MAW during Korean War. I believe he earned 3 air medals. He would have also been awarded many medals including asiatic Pacific campaign metal, American campaign, WWII victory, Korean War, national defense, etc… He rose to the rank of captain. This would have been the last uniform he wore before retiring from marines. The uniform is missing the top button. This would be a great restoration and research project. Old US USA American Service War AIR Medal with Original Case WWII Korea Vietnam. This is a nice US Military Air Medal. The item is all original, it includes the Ribbon and lapel bar pin as shown and it is in the original box with the plastic still intact and unopened (see photos). This item is from an estate liquidation (see photos). I do not know the soldier’s name who was awarded this medal or the branch of service he was in, but they obviously had some flight experience to be awarded this medal (see photos). The item looks to be old and dates back to Vietnam or possibly WWII or the Korean war (viewing the photos, medal and the box should help you to date this item more precisely). Appointments and retirement documents for Harold Gore, USMC, along with medals, insignia. He served in WWII and Korea, retiring as a W-4 in 1975. A very nice Marine Corps collection of awards and medals.
Butler served in Sub Group One and aboard the Jeep Carriers USS Corregidor, USS Tripoli, Fighter Squadron 31 in the Korean War and Air Transport Squadron Ten (VR 10) during WWII. His full career requires further research. His ribbons and three loose medals were separated from the main group. Discharge document to George Butler, CS2 dated 27 Aug 56. Discharge document to George Butler, SIC dated 29 Apr 46. He was awarded The Victory Medal, American Area Service Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Medal. Massy Co of the Tripoli, one dated 26 Oct 55 as part of Fighter Squadron 31, one dated 11 Jun 46 for Fighter Squadron 31. Promotion Document to Commissaryman Third Class dated 16 May 53 while serving aboard the USS Tripoli. US Navy Certification of completion for Correspondence course dated 19 Jan 53 & US Navy Certificate of Completion for NTSch (Cooks & Bakers) dated 12 Feb 44. Two 8 x 10 b/w photos including a deck shot of the USS Corregidor and helicopters flying from CVHA-1, USS Thetis Bay (formerly CVE-90), Anzio class. Carries up to 1000 troops. Sewn Medal Bar for the Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. VR-10 was commissioned at Honolulu in 1943 and was primarily a maintenance squadron. During the Korean War she carried men, aircraft and aviation cargo to NATO countries and Korea. During the Korean War she carried F-84 Thunderjets to Korea. Fighter Squadron 31 “Tomcatters, ” whose patch is based on Felix the Cat flew the F2H Banshee during the 1950′s. Medals, documents, photos show normal wear/tear associated with age. Medals are sewn for wear on dress uniform. Documents show fading, yellowing from wear. May have fold lines, creasing. World War II & Korean War Medal Group. Battalion, Royal Northumberland Fusiliers. A Dunkerque veteran and prisoner of war of the Japanese. 1939-45 Star; Pacific Star; War Medal 1939-45, these unnamed; Korea 1950-53, 1st issue 21013067 Fus. Korea 1950-54, unnamed, mounted court style for wear, good very fine and better (5). Fusilier Wilson was a member of one of the most unfortunate battalions in World War II – the 9th Battalion Royal Northumberland Fusiliers. The Battalion was formed in 1939 with HQ at Alnwick, Northumberland and went to France in April 1940 but escaped back to England from Dunkerque in May 1940. On 24 October 1941 they sailed on the Warwick Castle, stopping at Trinidad and Madras and arrived in Singapore on 5 February 1941. For eleven days they fought the Japanese suffering bombing, shelling and machine gun fire and were gradually pushed back from the Causeway to Nee Soon and finally Swiss Cottage Estate. At 1600hrs on 16 February, to their dismay, they were ordered to line up along the Bukit Timah Road and surrender. On 7 November the Battalion was transported by train to Thailand to work on’Railway of Death’. After four and half years subjected to disgraceful starvation and cruelty the survivors were liberated and arrived back in Liverpool on 23 October 1945 where the Battalion was disbanded. Over 70 members of the Battalion died in captivity. Fusilier Wilson survived his captivity but was recalled as reservist to re-join the R. And fight in Korea.
