Up for sale is an eight medal bar from a Soviet World War II veteran. The veteran had also been awarded the order of the Redstar, but this is missing from the group. The best part of this group is the defense of Moscow medal with the original award document. Another fascinating thing with this grouping is that the veteran has both the military and the war effort version of the Jubilee medal. This is because he was wounded by a landmine and went to work in a factory after he had recovered. The recipient was wounded while recovering captured German vehicles at the village of Vertyachii (on the Don river) after the Stalingrad counteroffensive. He was ordered to evacuate all of the trophy vehicles from a heavily mined area speedily and without losses, which he accomplished completely but for the exception of his own wound. Fantastic grouping, and you will get everything that is pictured.

Information on the Iron Cross Medal:Emperor Wilhelm II reauthorized the Iron Cross on 5 August 1914, at the start of World War 1. During these three periods, the Iron Cross was an award of the Kingdom of Prussia, although given Prussia’s pre-eminent place in the German Empire formed in 1871 it tended to be treated as a generic German decoration. The 1813, 1870, and 1914 Iron Crosses had three grades:Iron Cross 2nd Class Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse, or EKIIIron Cross 1st Class Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse, or EKIGrand Cross of the Iron Cross (Gro kreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes, often simply Gro kreuz)Although the obverse of the medals of each class was identical, the manner in which each was worn differed. The Iron Cross 1st Class employed a pin or screw posts on the back of the medal and was worn on the left side of the recipient’s uniform, like the original 1813 version. The Iron Cross 2nd Class, and the larger Grand Cross, were suspended from different ribbons: the Grand Cross from a neck ribbon, the 2nd Class from a ribbon on the chest. The usual display of the 2nd Class version was as a ribbon through one of the buttonholes in the recipient’s tunic. The Grand Cross was intended for senior generals of the Prussian or (later) the German Army. An even higher decoration, the Star of the Grand Cross of the Iron Cross (also called the Bl cher Star), was awarded only twice, to General Feldmarchall Gebhard Leberecht Von Blucher in 1813 and to General Feldmarschall Paul von Hindenburg in 1918. A third award was planned for the most successful German general during World War II but was not made after the defeat of Germany in 1945. The Iron Cross 1st Class and the Iron Cross 2nd Class were awarded without regard to rank. One had to possess the 2nd Class already in order to receive the 1st Class. The World War II Victory Medal was established by an Act of Congress on 6 July 1945 (Public Law 135, 79th Congress) and promulgated by Section V, War Department Bulletin 12, 1945. The medal was designed by Thomas H. And approved by the Secretary of War on 5 February 1946. Consequently, it did not transition from a ribbon to a full medal until after World War II. The Congressional authorization for the medal specified that it was to be awarded to any member of the United States military, including members of the armed forces of the Government of the Philippine Islands. As hostilities during the Second World War ended on 2 September 1945, there may be cases of service members who had enlisted, entered officer candidate school, or had been a cadet or midshipman at the U. Between 3 September 1945 and any date in 1946, receiving the medal without having been a veteran of the period of active hostilities during the war; the reason for this late date is that President Harry S. As every member of the United States Armed Forces who served from 7 December 1941 to 31 December 1946 was eligible for the medal, there were over twelve million eligible recipients, making the World War II Victory Medal the second most widely awarded military award of the United States, after the National Defense Service Medal.
