This is a fine U. Navy/Marine Corps Second World War Bronze Star Medal in its titled, short black leatherette presentation case in excellent condition. The star planchet retains a very attractive age toned patina to both the front and back sides. The detail is very sharp and pronounced due to the excellent strike of the piece. The star planchet is suspended from the original ribbon. The ribbon is mounted on the correct WWII Navy/Marine Corps full wrap broach and is complete with the original and fully functional pin assembly on the reverse side. The reverse of the star is unnamed. Accompanying this beautiful medal is a pin back ribbon bar that originally came with the decoration. The medal comes a Navy/Marine Corps style short, black leatherette presentation case, which bears the title, “Bronze Star Medal” in gold leaf on two lines. It doesn’t get rarer than this… Completely original Type 1 1939 U. Marine Corps Fleet Reserve miniature medal. These type 1 medals were only awarded (I believe there was a single BB&B contract) for a handful of months in early 1939. It was replaced by the type II medal for the second half of 1939 and a short time in 1940 before a complete activation of the Fleet Marine Corps Reserve occurred at the earliest onset of WWII. Thus, there was no need for either medal during the war, so both early types rarely surface for sale. Full size type I medals only come up for sale every few years, and I’ve only seen two miniatures in 30 years in the hobby. This is truly a time capsule piece. Please see our other listings, and check back often as we typically list 30-50 high-end estate items each week with No Reserve! The Soldier’s Medal is an individual decoration of the United States Army. It was introduced as Section 11 of the Air Corps Act, passed by the Congress of the United States on July 2, 1926. The Army’ Soldier’s Medal is equivalent to the Navy and Marine Corps Medal. Air Force began issuing its own Air Force Commendation Medal in 1947 with additional awards denoted by oak leaf clusters. The American Defense Medal was a military award of the United States Armed Forces, established by Executive Order 8808, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, on June 28, 1941. The medal was intended to recognize those military service members who had served on active duty between September 8, 1939, and December 7, 1941. A similar medal, known as the American Campaign Medal, was established in 1942, for service in the American Theater during the World War II era. The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal is a military award of the United States Armed Forces which was first created on November 6, 1942, by Executive Order 9265 issued by President Franklin D. The medal was intended to recognize those military service members who had performed military duty in the European Theater (to include North Africa and the Middle East) during the years of the Second World War. The World War II Victory Medal was established by an Act of Congress on 6 July 1945 (Public Law 135, 79th Congress) and promulgated by Section V, War Department Bulletin 12, 1945. The medal was designed by Thomas H. Jones and approved by the Secretary of War on 5 February 1946. Consequently, it did not transition from a ribbon to a full medal until after World War II had ended. The World War II Victory Medal was first issued as a service ribbon, referred to as the Victory Ribbon. Excellent Addition To Your WW2 U. If you are reading this I would guess that you are interested in Royal Observer Corps medals and already know how much rarer a medal presented to a female is. Secondly, there is also a considerable degree of rarity for these medals presented to officers. Added to the above two points is the fact that this pair was also presented to a husband and wife which I have personally never seen before and I’m sure must be ever rarer. These particular medals were awarded to OBSERVER OFFICER W. And his wife OBSERVER A. Medal awarded 1961, bar issued 1973 served with 13 group [Carmarthen]. Alice May WEALE Medal awarded 1964. Served with 13 Group. The officers medal has the clasp and there is also a pair of patches included. Apologies for the photos but I will put some better ones up when I get chance.
