The award though unmarked, is believed to be manufactured by the firm of 100 as it has the classic hinge and hook of this maker. This example along with many others, was picked up in the Reichschancellery at the end of the war, by a British servicemen. These awards rated higher than the Iron Cross 1st class. This is a very nice World War II U. Army Air Corps Distinguished Flying Cross in its Black Leatherette Case that is in excellent condition. The planchet is with an unblemished, olive bronze finish and suspended from the original ribbon. Affixed to the ribbon are two bronze oak leaf clusters indicating a second and third award of the decoration. It is mounted on the correct slot broach and is with a functional pin and roller locking catch. The medal is contained in its black leatherette case that is titled,’DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS’ in gold leaf on the lid. There is no ribbon bar or lapel pin present in the case.
Marine Officer’s Miniature Medals, Jump Wings & EGA Insignia. The grouping is identified to Major Wallace G. Notes from the collector from where these came, stated that he was a 1st Lt. He was on Okinawa with the 2nd Bn / 29th Marines. He was assigned to S-3 as of June 14, 1945, and replaced the former S-3 officer who was KIA. On April 1 to 13 August 1946 was S-3 with the 7th Marines in China during occupation era. This lot consists of. Miniature medal ribbons on bar, Marine Good Conduct, American Theater, American Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific with 1 star, WWII Victory, China Service, and National Defense medals. On single bar – clutch back. Pair of Pattern 1936 officer’s EGA collar insignia, hallmarked, H&H STERLING & 1/20 10K GF STERLING. Jump Wings, hallmarked Robbins “R” in wing over STERLING.
