WW I GOLD STAR Mothers Pilgrimage MEDAL Bronze 1930 Tiffany & Co #316

The item up for sale is a vintage, original Gold Star Mother’s Pilgrimage Medal. With ribbon(ribbon is still wrapped). Reverse reads “Gold Star Pilgrimage to the Battlefields of the World War” with the logo for United States Lines. These were issued for a very interesting program which the US government provided for an ocean voyage to Europe for women who had sons killed in action during the First World War so they could visit the sight of their graves. I believe this program was also for war widows. From what I found online, 6,654 women participated. The program ran from 1930 until 1933. This medal is numbered 316numbered along the edge: “bronze m 316″. Manufactured by Tiffany & Co. Measures 1-1/2 in diameter. Medal is bronze with gold star. It weighs 1.11 oz. Medal is in Excellent condition. Some light wear, spots of patina. Ribbon is in Very Good condition. Splitting and fraying from age in spots(particularly on the blue part of the ribbon near where it is attached to the medal). The white is yellowing a bit with age. Overall, a really good looking medal. Answers to questions usually take 24 hours due to work schedule. Sorry for any inconveniences this may cause, therefore please ask questions early. All possible care is made to package the items so they will arrive to you in the state that they left in. These charges are the buyers responsibility. I have done some research and he was an Ambulance Driver in the Australian Ambulance Corps. The Australian Voluntary Hospital was a military hospital staffed by Australian expatriates in England that served on the Western Front between 1914 and 1916. For much of this time it was the only Australian presence on the Western Front. Later transferred to the Royal Air Force (RAF) 01/04/1918. I have added some information about the hospital below. MORE INFORMATION england & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations): Farquhar Albert of Woodnesborough Grange Sandwich Kent died 10 November 1935. Confirmation of Florence Muriel Lambe or Farquhar widow Mowbray Gore Farquhar D. Colonel Stuart Saint John Farquhar admiral and John Charles Peveril Meggs Davis. Sealed London 25 May. — ABERDEEN – MARRIAGE OF MISS NICOL OF MURTLE – Miss Alice Jane Nicol, eldest daughter of the late Mr Alex Nicol of Murtle, shipowner, and sometime Provost of Aberdeen, was married on Thursday at St Andrew’s church, Aberdeen by the Rev J M Danson, to Albert Farquhar, fifth son of Admiral Sir Arthur Farquhar. When the First World War broke out in August 1914, Lady (Rachel) Dudley, the wife of the former Governor general of Australia the Lord Dudley, decided to create a hospital from Australian doctors and nurses who were in the United Kingdom. There were relatively large numbers of these; while doctors and nurses could be trained in Australia, advanced qualifications still required a trip overseas. Please read all carefully. Kevin was brilliant to deal with, he was very helpful. Great badge, super fast service, thank you. Friendly correspondence and prompt despatch – Thanks. This extremely rare medal was awarded to A. To have a 1914 star named to an Australian Unit is such a rare find. From my research there are only around 233, 1914 stars actually named to an Australian Unit. Although not Australian, this is one of only 208 ever issued. A really rare medal that deserves to be in a museum. It also makes it rarer than even the rare Gallantry awards. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER AUCTIONS. WW2 Original & Genuine Air Crew Europe Star Medal Group of Four

WW2 Original & Genuine Aircrew Europe Group of 4. Comprising 1939-45 Star, Aircrew Europe Star, 1939-45 General Service Medal, Defence Medal – all in original waxed paper envelopes and on original ribbons which appear never to have been mounted. This group is unattributed. When I bought it from a dealer some time back it came with the flattened box in the third picture purportedly addressed to 112683 F/Sgt Gerald McGowan who was shot down in a Halifax 5th/6th October 1942 and became a PoW. However, some helpful ebayers pointed out that the G in the naming on the box had been changed from a C. The box was in fact sent to 1288419 George McCowan RAF as evidenced by the Register at picture 4 which I tracked down on Ancestry. I have not researched George McCowan as I would have to doubt that these are even his medals (box doesn’t look big enough either). Therefore I sell them as unattributed, though I will include the box for those who might want to investigate further. Still a scarce and desirable group with an original Air Crew Europe Star.
