Uranium extracted at Oak Ridge was used in Los Alamos for the construction of the “Little Boy” bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945. The scale used in the picture is not the exact same one that is for sale, but it is the same model. I have assembled this scale to the best of knowledge, but I can’t promise that I did so correctly. I cannot find a source guide on how to put this together. The scale has glass on all four sides, which makes it difficult to photograph, so I apologize if there is too much glare. It is framed by what appears to be cherry or chestnut wood. It measures 20″ from top to bottom, and it is 15 1/2″ in width. It weighs 22 pounds. The front and back wood framed glass windows slide up and down to allow access to the scale. This scale comes with 16 counter-weights held in wooden containers, custom grooved to hold the round weights. It also has four lucite discs for placement on the bowl of each weight; a measuring tool for tiny amounts of uranium; and a liquid measurement device whose thresholds read “recharge” (red), “fair” (white) and “good” (green). There are also three metal scraps included that I believe were used as counter weights. The scale sits atop a stand that has one drawer in which the weights and other tools are held. There is a cartoon figure drawn in the bottom of the drawer. The item “WORLD WAR II Original Uranium Scale Used in Oak Ridge TN Y-12 Plant” is in sale since Tuesday, July 9, 2019.
