If you are reading this I would guess that you are interested in Royal Observer Corps medals and already know how much rarer a medal presented to a female is. Secondly, there is also a considerable degree of rarity for these medals presented to officers. Added to the above two points is the fact that this pair was also presented to a husband and wife which I have personally never seen before and I’m sure must be ever rarer. These particular medals were awarded to OBSERVER OFFICER W. And his wife OBSERVER A. Medal awarded 1961, bar issued 1973 served with 13 group [Carmarthen]. Alice May WEALE Medal awarded 1964. Served with 13 Group. The officers medal has the clasp and there is also a pair of patches included. Apologies for the photos but I will put some better ones up when I get chance. Henry was born 1876 as a son of Henry Cosgrove and Sophia Margaret Cosgrove from Belfast. Their family were Presbyterian. Around 1900 they lived Rugby Road, Belfast and later on Craigwelyn Ballyholme Road, Bangor. Henry was a factory manager in Daisy Hill, Banbridge, Co. Down By the way? Commissioned from Officer Training Corps 15-jun-1915 and was attached to the 4th Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers as a 2nd Lieutenant. When the 2nd Garrison Battalion was formed in Dublin Spring 1916 he was transferred to this unit. 2nd Garrison Battalion took part suppression of the Easter Rising. Then went with the battalion to Salonica August 1916. He was Company commander and Acting Captain from 19-Nov-1917 and Temp Captain from 15-Feb-1918. The 2nd Garrison Battalion The Royal Irish Fusiliers had been formed at Dublin in Spring 1916 and sailed in August for a destination described as’East’ and started arriving in Salonika on 24 August 1916.
