The battle was the longest of the First World War and took place on the hills north of Verdun-sur-Meuse. MEDAL IS STAMPED ON ITS EDGE ” BRONZE ” WITH THE CORNUCOPIA MINT MARK OF THE MONNAIE de PARIS (PARIS MINT). Obverse: Marianne and personification of Fury block the path of the German eagle, clasping sword, in foreground; civic and national shields to lower right. Reverse: Three medallions containing the busts of Generals Petain, Nivelle, and de Castelnau above legend in five lines; all within wreath, with awards clasped at the bottom.
