HISTORY OF THE AWARD. Hungarian Fire Cross also called the Frontline Fighters Cross (Tuzkereszt) – Instituted on 24 November 1941 in three categories: with swords and a laurel wreath around the central medallion for three months’ front line duty as a combatant, without swords but with laurel wreath for six months’ service at the front in any capacity, without swords or laurel wreath for six months’ military service at home and for posthumous awards a black ribbon is used instead of the normal one. The central medallion is inscribed “A HAZAERT” in three lines and on the lower arm is either 1942, 1943, 1944 or 1942-43 which reflects the year the award was made. 100% GENUINE FULL SIZE & OFFICIALLY NAMED. Ronald Cobley from Rotherham, South Yorkshire enlisted in 1943/1944 & the GSM roll states that he served with the 6th Airborne division in Palestine from 31-10-1945 to 30-6-1948. He joined Rotherham borough fire service in 1949/1950 & was awarded his long service medal as a station officer & the award certificate for the 1977 silver jubilee medal states that he was a divisional officer grade three when he was awarded this. The group comes complete with a huge archive of original material including the recipients photograph album from his time in Palestine. This contains 155 small snap shot type photographs of the recipient on military service including several shots of parachute drops, 1 x large military photo of the signal troop, 59th British light regiment RA in Quetta February 1947, 1 x postcard size military photograph of the same unit, 15 assorted fire service course photographs of assorted sizes, issue certificate for the 1977 silver jubilee medal, 11 x assorted fire service training certificates & a newspaper cutting with regards to the recipients promotion to divisional officer which states that he served with the 144th & 6th airborne divisional signals in WW2. A superb issued example of a rare 1939-dated. Mk II Brodie Steel Helmet. Complete with liner &. 581357 William Veale Thorpe. With a superb war-time National Fire Service. Logo to the front. And regional fire service numbered oval. This beautiful example of Mk-II Brodie issued to a Senior Officer. Comes complete with numerous copies & b/w photos of his servivc record. 1941 to March 1948. Inc his role as Honorary Fire Observer. All UK war-time air-raid fires. To assist the Regional Technical Intelligence Dept. And is accompanied by his World War Two Defence medal. The interior lining is stamped for. Helmets Ltd for Wheathampstead. Colour of dark olive green-brown paint finish is to almost 100%. As is the twin red painted rank bars around the shell. Liner & chinstrap are also in superb order. And with its original liner lace. The underside of the helmet shell is stamped. In the rear of the inner rim is painted his service number.
