Group from Major General Carroll H. The group includes two Legion of Merit medals, both wrap brooch (one with an oak leaf cluster), Bronze Star, WWI and Occupation medals, WWII campaign medals, sterling pin back General Stars, a rare “Pissed in the Rhine” membership club with a photo of him doing so, original Legion of Merit certificate and citation, Dog tag, ribbon bars, pins, insignia, photos, and documents as shown. Some copied research and an original signed portrait photo are also included. Major General Carroll H. Deitrick was born in Watsontown, Pennsylvania on April 11, 1898. General Deitrick began his career as an assistant Ordnance Officer with the Hawaiian Ordnance Depot in the 1920s, and first came to Aberdeen Proving Ground as an assistant proof officer in 1930. Tours of duty with the Supply Division in the old Office Chief of Ordnance, as Commander of the Ogden Ordnance Depot in Utah, and at Picatinny Arsenal followed in the next decade. During World War II, he held important staff positions in Washington, and during the period from November 1944 until May 1945, was Chief Ammunition Officer and Deputy to the Chief Ordnance Officer in the European Theater of Operations. Production plants to the front lines. In the post-war period, he also served as Chief of the Cincinnati Ordnance District and as Chief of the Inspection Branch and Executive Officer, Office Chief of Ordnance. He subsequently served tours as Commanding General of Watertown Arsenal and the Tank-Automotive Center in Detroit. His final assignment was that of Commanding General of Aberdeen Proving Ground during the years 1956 to 1958. General Deitrick retired in 1958 and died in 1973. Display case shown is NOT included. Medal and archive of WW1 Gold Star mother Maude Van Horne, Pennsylvania. (1) Gold star mother medal number 5150 with the name plate in her name. Wear and tarnish to medal. Ribbon is in poor condition. (2) Gold Star Pilgrimage Medal. Numbered 5038 on the rim. Heavy tarnish to medal, soiling to ribbon. Award document for same to Mrs. (the award document is not pictured in the group picture, but in two other scans, and it is included). (3) War Mothers and Widows official Certificate Of Identification, Pilgrimage, issued by the Secretary of War, with the 5150 number, photo identification. (4) Booklet and Program for the Farewell Dinner to the Goldstar Mothers on Pilgrimage to France on Board SS President Roosevelt, Stains and dark spots on the cover. (5) Luncheon menu on the SS President Roosevelt for Thursday July 30, 1931, stained, creased and soiled. (6) Invitation to the Pilgrimage from the US Government. (7) miscellaneous newspaper articles and other documents. There are a few documents not photographed relating to the veteran. Please refer to photographs and condition description above. 100% GENUINE FULL SIZE & OFFICIALLY NAMED. Ronald Cobley from Rotherham, South Yorkshire enlisted in 1943/1944 & the GSM roll states that he served with the 6th Airborne division in Palestine from 31-10-1945 to 30-6-1948. He joined Rotherham borough fire service in 1949/1950 & was awarded his long service medal as a station officer & the award certificate for the 1977 silver jubilee medal states that he was a divisional officer grade three when he was awarded this. The group comes complete with a huge archive of original material including the recipients photograph album from his time in Palestine. This contains 155 small snap shot type photographs of the recipient on military service including several shots of parachute drops, 1 x large military photo of the signal troop, 59th British light regiment RA in Quetta February 1947, 1 x postcard size military photograph of the same unit, 15 assorted fire service course photographs of assorted sizes, issue certificate for the 1977 silver jubilee medal, 11 x assorted fire service training certificates & a newspaper cutting with regards to the recipients promotion to divisional officer which states that he served with the 144th & 6th airborne divisional signals in WW2.
