WW2 OBE MiD Medal Group to Australian Senior Officer Lt-Colonel Surgeon

WW2 OBE MiD Medal Group to Australian Lt Col Surgeon. Rare medal group to Australian Medical Officer and Lieutenant-Colonel who ultimately commanded the 2/11. Field Ambulance in New Guinea. Medals comprise Officer of the Order of the British Empire, 1939-45 Star, Africa Star with 8. Army clasp, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, War Medal with Mentioned in Despatches leaf and Australia Service Medal. All medals correctly impressed NX87 P. Tomlinson (except OBE, unnamed as issued). Medals are mounted court style for wearing. Paul Angus Tomlinson was an early enlistee to the 2. AIF on 24 October 1939 and was allotted the very low Army Number of NX87!! He was a 26 year old Medical Practitioner (a Surgeon) and single at the time, living in Epping NSW. He was on continuous War Time service from 1 November 1939 to 20 November 1945. Initially appointed a Captain in the Australian Army Medical Corps, he embarked for the UK on 10 January 1940 before being sent to the Middle East the following month. He spent time attached as a Medical Officer to the Australian Artillery and also the 2/4. For his work in Greece and the Middle East he was Mentioned in Despatches on 30 December 1941. Whilst still in the Middle East before being sent to Greece, he was photographed by the famous Australian wartime photographer and film maker Damien Parer! The photo is available on the AWM website and the caption reads (copy of the photo is attached). MCINTYRE OF THE 2/4TH, READ THE GOOD NEWS OF A VICTORY FOR THE BRITISH. He was thereafter appointed Major in January 1942. He continued to serve in the Middle East attached to the 2/4. Battalion before moving to the 7. In November 1942 he was appointed to the 2/8. In July 1943 he began service in the Pacific Islands with himself becoming sick on a number of occasions with Dengue Fever etc whilst serving with the 2/8. A copy of the citation for his award is attached showing his brilliant work caring for the wounded during this time despite the terrible conditions, constant enemy bombing and combat occurring around him. On 1 December 1943 he was promoted Lieutenant-Colonel and placed in command of the 2/11. Medals come with a copy of the full service file from the National Archives and official copies of the OBE citation.
