An original group of World War Two medals to a Sergeant from 75 Squadron Royal New Zealand Air Force who was killed in action on 6th July 1943. The medals were awarded to 658070 Sergeant William Edward Stobbs and who came from Stockton on Tees, Durham and was 21 years old when he died. His aircraft was the 6th kill out of 51 for the German night fighter ace Oblt. Georg-Hermann Grenier of IV/NJG1. The Air Crew Europe Star. Named Air Council Medal Slip. Original Box of Issue Named to his father D Stobbs at 78 Hamptin Road, Stockton on Tees, Durham, Surrey. Copies of his CWGC certificate. A history of William Stobb’s service and the history of 75 Squadron RNZAF. William Edward Stobbs served during the Second World War as a Navigator with 75 (Royal New Zealand Air Force) Squadron, having crewed up at 29 O. And then having proceeded to 1657 Conversion Unit. He joined the Squadron on 1st July 1943, and was killed in action when Stirling EF436, piloted by Flight Sergeant R. Thomas, was lost without trace whilst on a mine-laying sortie off the Fresian islands, on 5-6 July 1943, on what is believed to have been his first sortie. All the crew were killed. Reliable reports from the Dutch said that the aircraft had been shot down by a night fighter over the sea, 12 miles North West of Terscherlling (the middle island of the Southern Frisian Group) at approximately 02:31 hours. The night fighter was captained by Oblt. Georg-Hermann Grenier, of IV/NJG1, this was his sixth kill out of a total of 51. The kill is confirmed in Greniers war records. Stobbs is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. Worthy of more research. Please let me know if you need any additional photos or details. Please see my other listings of British and foreign Medals and Militaria. Thanks and kind regards. WW1 Meritorious service medal (MSM) for home service to, RSM Jordan, Durham. L. I

Over the past 25 years I have collected items like a squirrel with no particular theme other than I have an interest in military items & small vintage collectors items. Sadly due to other collecting interests the time has come to offer some of the gems from my collection for sale to you. A very nice 100% genuine full size & correctly named WW1 Meritorious service medal (MSM) for home service to, RSM Jordan, Durham. A Rare WW1 immediate MSM for home services to- 21504. I (DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY). Temporary paid regimental Sjt Mjr Albert Jordan was awarded the immediate MSM for home services whilst serving with the depot of the Durham Light infantry as part of northern command. This was published in the London gazette dated 5-6-1919 (The peace gazette) & the gazette goes on to state that he was a native of Rochdale. Complete with London gazette details. The recipient is not entitled to any other medals for service in WW1 as he did not serve overseas during that conflict. One of only 131 awards of the immediate MSM for services between 1916 & 1928 to the D. I & if my maths are correct? One of only 11 awards for home service to the regiment. Nef or better condition. Why not take a moment to view my other Durham Light Infantry medals that i have listed today. The item “WW1 Meritorious service medal (MSM) for home service to, RSM Jordan, Durham. L.
