Offered is a Queens South Africa Medal (1899 1902) with 5 claps CAPE COLONY, ORANGE FREE STATE, TRANSVAAL, SOUTH AFRICA 1901, SOUTH AFRICA 1902, impressed named 5288 PTE. There looks to be a P. Mark to right side of the monarchs profile. Comes with a copy medal roll and the 1939 census. Dragoon Guards (The Princess Royals) did sterling work in the harsh and trying conditions of the South African War, as a cavalry unit they were invaluable in their ability to counter the Boers mobility. 24 Officers and 565 men of the 7th D. There is a Benjamin John Vallance who appears in the 1939 Caterham census with his occupation listed as Riding master with a date of birth as 21/12/1882 it is possible that this is the same man.
