WWII US Navy Air Medal In Short Titled Case – USN USMC – US Mint Wrapped Brooch.
This is a fine Second World War U. Mavy/Marine Corps Air Medal in its short black leatherette case that remains in excellent condition. The planchet is with the fine, dull bronze finish that is characteristic of the WWII Navy/Marine Corps decorations. It is suspended from its original short-draped ribbon which remains strong, solid, and is with vibrant color. It is suspended from a full wrap broach that is complete with pin and roller locking catch assembly. The short black leatherette case is titled “AIR MEDAL” in gold leaf in one line on the outer lid. The interior remains in clean and undamaged. The Air Medal was awarded for the successful completion of 20 operational combat sorties against the enemy. This one remains a fine example of the Navy/Marine Corps decoration.

Medal manufactured by US Mint as noted by the soldered ring. Leatherette case suffers heat damage to outside but inside perfect. Remnants of paper tag on front. This is a rare and original WWII US Mint Air Corps Distinguished Flying Cross Medal Ribbon Bar. The medal is in excellent condition and comes with a lapel case. It is a piece of militaria from the World War II era (1939-45) and was made in the United States. This item is perfect for collectors of original period items and militaria enthusiasts.

United States Air Medal in Case. Full wrap broach pin setup. Most likely early WW2 era. Medal ribbon has 3 oak leaf cluster devices attached (indicating additional awards). Has enameled lapel device and single ribbon bar in U. “Coffin” style case that was typically ww2 produced. For American medal cases, the U. “Coffin” style cases were ww2 produced. However, the “coffin” style cases/boxes were used right up to and through the Vietnam conflict as supplies of the medal boxes were used up (so you can find WW2, Korea, and Vietnam era medals in this style of case). Next, clear plastic cases/boxes were used in the 1950′s and 60′s (typically you see Vietnam era medals in these cases). The clear plastic cases were followed up by the blue vinyl-type grained textured cases/boxes with the metal rims which were utilized in the 1970′s follow up by blue vinyl-type smooth covered cases with metal rims. After that, there were blue vinyl-type smooth covered cases without metal rims. Finally small hard shell plastic blue cases were introduced.
