Alvin Cullum York 1887 1964 also known as Sergeant York, was one of the most decorated United States Army soldiers of World War I. York was awarded the Medal of Honor for leading an attack during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in France on a German machine gun nest, taking out a machine gun crew, killing 25 enemy soldiers and capturing 132 German soldiers. York earned decorations from several countries during World War I, including, France, Italy and Montenegro. The autograph is signed”Sgt Alvin C. York” in blue fountain pen. Offered is a British Army medal group, as awarded to 374063 Battery Quartermaster Sergeant F Geall, who served on the Western Front from 1916 with the Royal Artillery, having previously served as a pre war Territorial NCO. Medals include the following awards: War Medal & Victory Medal, impressed named 374063 B. Territorial Force War Medal, impressed named 374063 SJT. & Territorial Force Efficiency Medal, impressed named 374063 B. Court mounted for display. Comes with medal entitlement paperwork and brief unit summary. Battery Quarter Master Sergeant Fred Geall served with the 163rd Siege Battery, which had been with the 81 Mixed Brigade since 11th October 1917 between September and February 1918. 163rd Siege Battery was in the Arras area. Billets east of Arras and guns in Athies. The Battery was certainly present for some of the heaviest fighting, particularly at Vimy Ridge, Ypres and Arras. The 163rd Battery was part of the 1st Canadian Heavy Artillery Group, supporting the famous 4th Canadian Division attack on Vimy Ridge in April 1917, with total battlefield casualties for the campaign numbering 3598 killed and 7004 wounded. Here is a well documented named WW2 grouping from a WM that served in the Marine Corps from July 1943 to December 1945. Post WW2 she had a full career in the Air Force. Included with this are the following items. Alpha uniform with ribbons and insignia. The EGAs on the jacket and the hat are brass, yes I know they should be bronze. That is how it came. The skirt has a small repaired area. The talon zipper works fine. Waist measures 29 inches. The jacket measures 38 inches in the bust. Measured pit to pit. There is no mothing on the skirt or jacket. They are both wrinkled from being in storage for years. The hat was made by Knox. It has her name stamped in it. I counted three moth holes, two on the top and one next to the EGA. Medals WW2 Victory, National Defence, American Campaign, and Air Force Achievement. Bible with steel cover plate. WW2 USMC Certificate of Service. Recommendation for promotion, dated 1944. 4 page humorous paper on “Characteristics of a BAM”. 2 page humorous paper on the discharge point system. 2 page write up on the Magnificient Amphibians, Marines. 4 page balled of Wake Island. Marine Corps Womens Reserve Camp Lejuene and New River N. 4 editions of the Quantico Sentry Newspaper. August 9, 16, 23, and 30 1945. Award documentation from when she was in the Air Force. WW1 DCM Medal Group Awarded – Company Sergeant Major C. Cooper Royal Fusiliers A group of three First World War medals awarded to Company Sergeant Major C. Cooper of The Royal Fusiliers, consisting of (from left to right). The Distinguished Conduct Medal, The British War Medal and The Victory Medal. The Distinguished Conduct Medal is engraved to the edge L-11886 C. The British War Medal is engraved to the edge L-11886 W. The Victory Medal is engraved to the edge L-11886 W. The medals are court mounted with a felt backing and pin clasp. Included with the medals is various photocopied paperwork regarding Company Sergeant Major C. Cooper, including his death certificate (1930) and Supplement to the London Gazette, 5th December, 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during two attacks on a wood and a village. His company was badly cut up, and all the officers had become casualties. He reorganised the remnants and led them forward to the final objective with great determination. Working under very adverse conditions and in the face of intense fire this warrant officer set a fine example in maintaining the discipline and morale of the company. Dimensions The medals are of the standard size. The mounted set measures 4 inches (10cm) by 3 (8.5cm) and weighs 139g. Condition The medal trio is in great condition with just some discolouration with age.
