Offered is a Military Medal group to Private Gentry 2. Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment which was awarded for the battle of Albert 1918. Military Medal, (G. V. R) impressed named 42285 P. British War and Victory Medal impressed named 47319 PTE. Comes with copy medal index cards, medal roll, London Gazette 1919, 1911 & 1939 census, newspaper article 1919 extracts from History of the Lincoln Shire Regiment 1914 -1918, Battalion War Diary August 1918 & photograph. London Gazette 7/2/1919, schedule number 204,900. Schedule 195,000 200,999 this gazette covers the awards for the battel of Amiens 8/8/1918 3/9/1918. Wesney Gentry was born on the 2/12/1880 in Chelmsford, Essex. The 1911 Census records him as living in Chelmsford and his occupation taylor. Unfortunately his records did not survive the WW2 Blitz but what is known: Enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps in 1916, with a regimental number of 47319. The numbering block for the RFC 47301 49300 Aug 16 – Nov 16. He transferred from 31/BS Royal Flying Corps to the 10. Battalion Lincolnshire Regt (Grimsby Chums). At some stage he was posted to the 2. Battalion Lincolnshire Regt, this was possibly after 18/5/1918 when the 10. Was reduced to cadre strength after suffering heavy casualties. Action: 21/8/1918 29/8/1918 Near Beaumont Hamel. 7 pages of the War Diary covering the attack. 4 pages in the Lincolnshire Regimental history. Pte Gentry is listed in the history as MM winner. He survived the war and is recorded on the 1939 Census as a Master Taylor living in Chelmsford. He died in Colchester, Essex, in 1968. The medals have correctly impressed naming to 7915 PTE. Charles Mann entered the war in France, 31/7/1915. Group of five awarded to Lance-Sergeant F. Lee, The Welch Regiment; decorated for gallantry at Welsh Valley during the Somme Offensive, he was killed in action near Ypres on 12 March 1918. ; 1914 Star 1117 Pte F. ; British War and Victory Medals 1117 Cpl. George Medal for Bravery, 4th Class, the reverse stamped’No. 901662′, this mounted Russian style. George Medal for Bravery (4th Class). Was born at Newport, Monmouthshire on 25 June 1894. Frederick was the second son of Anthony Lee, a dockyard worker who, according to a local newspaper report, had been fined 5s for drunk and disorderly behaviour two years previously. The 1901 census gives his residence as 35 Mill Parade, Newport, and he was educated at Bolt Street Boys School. He enlisted into the 2nd Battalion, The Welch Regiment, disembarking at Le Havre on 13 September 1914. Over the next two months the Battalion defended trenches on the Beauline Ridge, Aisne. The Regimental History records that by 14 November, it had suffered 5 officers and 197 other ranks killed, 16 officers and over 400 other ranks wounded. One officer and 45 other ranks had been taken prisoner. A further 124 casualties were sustained before Christmas; only one of the Battalion’s original officers remained unwounded. No fewer than 32 Military Medals were awarded to the 2nd Battalion for prolonged fighting during the Somme Offensive. On 16 July 1916 it attacked’Welsh Valley’, a communication trench running north-east to the Switch Line. Proceeding to Albert, the Battalion relieved the 1st Gloucesters in the front line north-east of Pozieres on 25 July, suffering 399 casualties over a one-month period. Private Lee was awarded the M. Unfortunately the cond olence slip is not present but the Pacific Star and 39-45 Star were privately engraved by the family at the time of being issued.
