Pre-War India & Palestine medal group WW2 North Africa & Burma Essex Regiment

Pre-War and WW2 medal group if 7 to the Essex Regiment, comprising India General Service Medal 1908, clasp North West Frontier 1930-31, General Service Medal 1918, clasp Palestine, 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Burma Star, Defence Medal and War Medal, the first two with correctly impressed naming to. IGSM Medal Roll confirms award of medal and clasp to Pte Reeve with his unit given as 2nd Battalion, Essex Regiment and the GSM Roll, with confirmation of clasp, following his transfer to the 1st Battalion of the Essex Regiment. Whilst in Palestine, men of the 1st Battalion, Essex Regiment, were caught up in the aftermath of the Christmas Day bombing of the Jordania Cafe in Haifa for which Pte Mott, 1 Essex, was awarded the Empire Gallantry Medal which was subsequently exchanged for a George Cross. Interestingly, their numbers are not miles apart and both have the same Palestine/WW2 combination. During WW2, 1st Essex served in North Africa before the Division was moved to the Far East, participating as a part of the Chindit Force and subsequently Columns working deep into the jungles. I have found reference online to a G. REEVES sic, serving with one of the Chindit Columns, but apart from available rolls and CWGC, no other research done as yet. Medals are in NEF condition with original ribbons although a couple are a little tatty. The Stars are all first issue with small rings. Along with the group is an original, WW2 issue, bi-metal cap badge if the Essex Regiment with slider and blow holes. A nice group, worthy of further research. Miniature Medal Group Gallantry DSO, OBE, India General Service, Boer War, WW1

An original and genuine mounted for wear collection of miniature medals including the DSO and OBE awarded to an officer who served with the British Army from the 19th Century until the First World War. The group contains the following. Distinguished Service Order in gold and enamel, Order of the British Empire Military in silver gilt, India General Service Medal with the clasps for Punjab Frontier 1897-98 and Tirah 1897-98, Queens Boer War / South Africa Medal with the clasps for Elandslaagte, Defence of Ladysmith, Belfast and South Africa 1902, 1914-15 Star, War Medal and Victory Medal with Mentioned in Dispatches Oak Leaf. The medals have been stitched and mounted onto a metal pin bar by the recipient. The medals are bar are in generally good, original condition. The DSO and 1914-15 star have come lose from their ribbons but these could easily be reattached. The DSO has also lost the reverse central section although this cannot be seen from the front. An interesting and complete group of gallantry medals to an office of the British army which is worthy of more research to try and find out who the recipient was. ORIGINAL WW1 TRIO AND SILVER Q. STAFF NURSE DAISY THOMAS. SERVED AT CUMBALLA WAR HOSPITAL, BOMBAY, INDIA. Consisting of 1914/15 Star, British War Medal and Victory medal. Mounted on Original pin backed ribbon bar. All correctly named to’ S. THOMAS’ (See Photographs) As well as a Silver hallmarked, Birmingham 1916 Q. Medal or cape badge, mounted seperatly on its own pin backed bar. Staff Nurse Daisy Thomas. Born: February 13th 1887 in Bishopston, Bristol. She was educated at St. Pauls School & Fairfield Road Higher Grade School Bristol (Built 1898). She trained as a nurse at Eastville Infirmary from April 29th. 1909 to June 14th 1912. She spent 3 years as a probationer and 2 years as a charge nurse. Before starting at The Hospital Newton Abbot, South Devon, on June 16th 1912. Nurse Thomas offered her services as a candidate for appointment with QAIMNSR on the 31st of December 1914 and. Enlisted for service with Queen Marys Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve. On 23rd of February 1915. Her address is given as The Hospital Newton Abbot. She served in India at The Cumballa War Hospital, Bombay, returning for three months leave to England in October 1916. While waiting for a return posting to India she worked at the Beaufort War Hospital from the 26th January 1917, in her native Bristol. On the 8th of August 1918 she was back in India until her contract expired on 22nd of February 1919. The Photo’s speak volumes and what you see is what you get. WW1 5 Medal Group to Canadian Gunner Peter Jack. Rare 5 medal group to a Canadian solider who served in WW1 and prior to that served in South Africa and India. Prior to WW1 he served with the 2nd Battlion Border Regiment in Waziristan India. After that he served with the 1st Border Regiment in South Africa. During WW1 Private Peter Jack served with the Canadian Field Aritllery. All medals are correctly named, please look at pictures.
