A genuine Eastern People’s award 1st class gold without swords. The pin back badge in zinc is in very good condition and still retains some of the gold wash finish especially in the deeper grooves of the design. There are no maker’s marks but that is fairly common. It was described in the catalogue as’silvered’ but it clearly has a gold wash finish rather than a silver wash. Original Soviet medal + original award document. Issued to Red army soldier – Sliva Moises Petrovich on July 30th, 1943. He served in 111th regiment of the defense of Southern Front headquarters. The award document signed by captain Soviet army. The Medal “For the Defense of Stalingrad” was awarded to all participants in the defense of Stalingrad – soldiers of the Red Army, Navy and troops of the NKVD, as well as persons from the civilian population who took part in the defense of Stalingrad during its siege by German forces. Award of the medal was made on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on the basis of documents attesting to actual participation in the defense of Stalingrad issued by the unit commander, the chief of the military medical establishment or by a relevant provincial or municipal authority. Serving military personnel received the medal from their unit commander, retirees from military service received the medal from a regional, municipal or district military commissioner in the recipient’s community, members of the civilian population, participants in the defense of Stalingrad received their medal from regional or city Councils of People’s Deputies. WW2 Original & Genuine Aircrew Europe Group of 4. Comprising 1939-45 Star, Aircrew Europe Star, 1939-45 General Service Medal, Defence Medal – all in original waxed paper envelopes and on original ribbons which appear never to have been mounted. This group is unattributed. When I bought it from a dealer some time back it came with the flattened box in the third picture purportedly addressed to 112683 F/Sgt Gerald McGowan who was shot down in a Halifax 5th/6th October 1942 and became a PoW. However, some helpful ebayers pointed out that the G in the naming on the box had been changed from a C. The box was in fact sent to 1288419 George McCowan RAF as evidenced by the Register at picture 4 which I tracked down on Ancestry. I have not researched George McCowan as I would have to doubt that these are even his medals (box doesn’t look big enough either). Therefore I sell them as unattributed, though I will include the box for those who might want to investigate further. Still a scarce and desirable group with an original Air Crew Europe Star. Fantastic attributed group of full-size WW2 medals including the rare Arctic Star and associated Russian awards of gratitude for the perilous Arctic Convoys and additional ephemera. These were awarded to AB (Anti Submarine) PJX 329141 William Woodward Royal Navy. His completed original certificate of service reveals so much: he served on numerous ships and shore establishments notably destroyers:HMS D03 ICARUS, HMS L84 HURSLEY and HMS L14 BEAUFORT. He served from 21st Apr 1942 to 24th May 1946. Medals are: 1939-45, Atlantic (with F&G bar), Italy, Arctic Stars and War Medal. Not mounted with original loose ribbons packets. Velvet presentation boxed Ushakov medal with named booklet to William also 40th and 70th Anniversary medals with named certificates and letters. Original large colour picture of William in his RN uniform with his acoustics (ASDIC) trade badge. His fathers WW1 war medal has been altered to have a ring suspension and chain which he wore around his neck. Two post cards of the ICARUS one with writing on the reverse. Lots of letters from William to the MOD/Russian embassy and vice versa, confirming entitlement to Arctic Star, Emblem (not in lot) and veterans badge (not in lot) etc. Lots of Information from papers and the internet.
