World War Medals

The St George Cross is the most collectible of the Russian medals of WW1. It is already rare and becoming more and more scarce. Awarded for distinction in combat, it has a nice depiction of St. George on the face side of the medal and on the backside identifying markings. This one is in very good shape and the markings are like new. The ribbon is accurate but not the original one. Medal with this ribbon was hand-picked at a Benelux collector’s market years ago. The soldier awarded the George Cross 4th class numbered 45 055 is identified in « 19141922. » as Podpraporshchik Ignaty Fedorovich DAPENKO , 23rd Nizovsky Infantry Regiment [6th Infantry Division, 15th Army Corps]. For that, in battle 14.08.1914, at Mühlen, exposing himself to danger, he carried out successful reconnaissance of approaches to the enemys position, along which he lead his battalion, having given the opportunity to fire on the enemy into the flank.
