Victory Over Germany in World War II Italy 1945 Rare Medal

MCMXLCV (Germany conquered 1945), Winged head of Gorgon-Medusa facing, stuck on the tip of a spear; serpents for hair, swastika on forehead; allied flags behind (left to right) Russian, American and British; small letters below MIST – RV – ZZI. VICTORIA (victory – victory – victory), Large V (sign of victory); Statue of Liberty between; branch below; ascending squadron of planes. This’rare’ medal is commemorating the Allied Victory in World War II. The Gorgon, with its piercing eyes, wild serpent hair and haunting expression, was likely selected as a design-type because in mythology she represented the dreaded enemy and death. The addition of the swastika of her forehead indicates that the Gorgon on this medal is meant to represent the German nation. Reunion, 1925, Cleveland (11) Bronze-colored medal, winged-lion logo, reverse 332. Annual Reunion, 1928, New Castle, Pa I got this all together, fresh out of the woodworks several years ago plus she threw in his sons WW2 items to keep the family things together. Dog tag id’s him, “DAVID MORRIS HELMAN / T 4 44 / 265080 / USNR A”. He was a naval officer serving on the DE 241, USS Keith, in all three theaters, see pics of his grouping, medals are period issue, not that 1990s “reissue”. Its odd that his dog tag also says Morris so pretty sure his Father’s WW1 Trumbull Cty medal, #9 above has the name error and Maurice should be Morris as on both the WW1 and WW2 dog tags. Study Pics carefully as to condition, etc. Neat, unmonked with two war groupings – sadly, Im downsizing.
