On 21st May 1918, in the Field Despatch of FM Sir Douglas Haig covering operations between October 1917 January 1918, the then 2nd Lieutenant Barrow was Mentioned in Despatches for Gallant and Distinguished Services in the Field. However, by May 1918, he had already been promoted to Lieutenant.
