I bought this from an antique dealer 20-25 years ago. The box is the same basic size as an Army type. The finish is crinkled, the recipients name is gilted on the cover – “THOMAS DE FAZIO Lt(S) U-S-M-S”. The box has a strange hinge lock (pictured), a strange metal hook to hold the medal, and white satiny / rayon lining. The medal is a proper and crrect planchet. The ribbon stock is period and correct, however it is like a 10 inch piece with two applied gild plated stars…. A “loop” has been made from flat decorative metal stock, and used to connect the medal’s loop to the ribbon. I have never seen anything like it. The item “WW2 Odd Boxed / Named USMM / USMS Mariner’s Medal” is in sale since Friday, August 23, 2019. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Militaria\WW II (1939-45)\Original Period Items\United States\Medals & Ribbons”. The seller is “wooden5c” and is located in Los Altos, California.
