Boer War Queens South Africa Medal to Captain Horace Dixon Mayhew, who served with both the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers & the 4th Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment during the Boer War. Queen’s South Africa Medal measures 36mm wide and is a circular silver medal with claw and swivel ribbon bar suspension, with CAPE COLONY & SOUTH AFRICA 1902 clasps; the face with the veiled crowned head and shoulders portrait of Queen Victoria facing left, circumscribed VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX (Victoria Queen and Empress), signed G. De Saulles; attributed on the edge in correct officer’s sloped style Capt: H. Welsh Fus: on correct ribbon. The medal was instituted in 1899 to be awarded to participants in the Boer War. Rarely will you see a 3rd Battalion (Militia) officer’s Q. Come up for sale. Horace Dixon Mayhew was born on the 11th June 1874, Hindly, Lancashire and was the son of Horace Mayhew and Mary Helena Dixon. He was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant in the 3rd (Militia) Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers in February 1892. Advanced to Captain in July 1896, he served in Cape Colony during the Boer War (Medal & 2 clasps) with the 3rd Battalion, R. And also attached to the 4th Yorkshire Regiment. He is sometimes listed in civilian life as a mining engineer and died 12th August 1906, in Sydney, Nova Scotia. We list militaria and coins weekly. Queen’s Mediterranean Medal measures 36mm wide and is a circular silver medal with claw swivel ribbon bar suspension, the face with the veiled crowned head and shoulders portrait of Queen Victoria facing left, circumscribed VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX (Victoria Queen and Empress), signed G. De Saulles, with the word MEDITERRANEAN scrolled to the right hand inside rim; attributed on the edge to 3573 CORPL: R. NORTH’D FUS: on correct ribbon. 574 medals were awarded to the battalion for service. The Mediterranean Medal was authorised by King Edward VII and awarded to volunteer and militia troops who had replaced the regular troops in garrisons across the Mediterranean and who guarded Boer prisoners. De Saulles, with the word MEDITERRANEAN scrolled to the right hand inside rim; attributed on the edge to 7202 CORPL: H. 775 medals were awarded to the battalion for service, with this medal being in exceptionally fine condition. Herbert Butterley was born in Sheffield, in 1880, and enlisted in the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry Militia at the city of his birth in September 1899. He was discharged 13 September 1905. The Mediterranean Medal was authorised by King Edward VII and awarded to volunteer and militia troops who had replaced the regular troops in garrisons across the Mediterranean and who guarded Boer prisoners. (Renamed) 1895 India service medal with Punjab frontier 1897-8 clasp & Tirah 1897-8 clasp. Named to:3051 Cpl D. J Williams 11th Hussars. Kings South Africa medal with 3 clasps. Queens South Africa medal 1901 & 1902 clasps. British war medal and Victory medal named to 50774 A. C CL 2 D. J Williams North N. The recipient was originally in the 11th Hussars but seems to have re-enlisted at the outbreak of WW1 in the Northamptonshire regiment as an acting Warrant officer. The medals are in good condition with some age related wear and tarnish. Some fraying to some of the ribbons. They are mounted on a bar. I have attached D. J Williams pre WWI service record. Boer War Queens South Africa Medal to Captain Horace Dixon Mayhew, who served with both the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers & the 4th Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment during the Boer War. Queen’s South Africa Medal measures 36mm wide and is a circular silver medal with claw and swivel ribbon bar suspension, with CAPE COLONY, ORANGE FREE STATE & TRANSVAAL clasps; the face with the veiled crowned head and shoulders portrait of Queen Victoria facing left, circumscribed VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX (Victoria Queen and Empress), signed G.
