O’BRIEN The group was officially replaced in 1964 after the originals were lost in a flood. Francis Joseph O’Brien enlisted in the AIF in August 1941. He gave his date of birth as June 1902. Research from Mostly Unsung says it was actually 1892. After further training he was posted to the 2/3rd Infantry Bn, Atherton Table, Queensland. On 21 Dec 1944 he embarked with the Bn for New Guinea and served on operations. Including the Anumb River, Dagua, Danmap River and Wewak before being evacuated with malaria. His Military Medal was awarded for actions in February 1945. He was finally discharged in February 1945. All badges have original lugs or pins unless otherwise stated.
