Cooke, Canadian Forestry Corps, late South African Constabulary and 67th (Western Scots) Battalion, Canadian Infantry. British War and Victory Medals. Very fine and better (4). William Forrest Cooke was born at Hull, Wright County, Quebec, on 26 August 1881 and enlisted in the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force at Victoria, B. In August 1915 – when he stated he had three years prior service in the South African Constabulary (service as a 3rd Class Trooper, from March 1901). Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the same month, he was posted to the 67th Battalion, Canadian Infantry on his arrival in England in early 1916, and was embarked for France that August. Advanced to the temporary rank of Captain two months later, he was mentioned in Haigs Vimy Ridge despatch. 1 June 1917 refers. Having then briefly transferred to the 54th Battalion in May 1917, he joined H. Canadian Forestry Corps C. , gaining a second mention. 28 December 1917 refers, and advancement to the temporary rank of Major, and, as C. He added the D. To his accolades in March 1918. The medals belong to Lieutenant-Colonel Dudley Gladstone Gordon – 3rd Marquess of Aberdeen + Temair. The medals consist of. 1914-15 first world war trio, with mentioned in dispatched. 2nd world war defence medal. And finally his long service medal for police constabulary. Commissioned for the 8th Battalion Gordon highlands in 1914, shortly transferred to the 9th battalion and promoted to temp major. And then commander of the 8/10th battalion. Received his DSO for his service/supervising while construction of a pair artillery tracks while under fire from enemy. These are a fantastic original set of miniature medals belonging to the colonel himself. I still have the original catalogue from John Milne Auctioneers, which i will included with the medals.
