An outstanding Great War D. And Russian Medal of the Order of St. George group of six awarded to Lance-Corporal P. Gunner, Somerset Light Infantry, who having earned his Russian award and a’mention’ for gallantry at Ypres, was killed in action before he could receive his well-deserved D. Distinguished Conduct Medal, G. ; 1914 Star, with clasp 9199 Pte. British War and Victory Medals, M. Oak leaf 9199 Pte. Imperial, Medal of the Order of St. George, 4th Class, officially numbered’165069′ and impressed upon the rim’9199 Pte. , together with the recipient’s Memorial Plaque (Percy Gunner). For conspicuous gallantry, when he carried important messages under heavy fire. He has been previously recommended for his bravery and ability, on an occasion when he took command of his platoon after all the non-commissioned officers had been killed or wounded. Russian Medal of the Order of St. Was born in 1895 at Gunner’s Farm, Worplesdon, Surrey and enlisted in the 1st Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry at Tregantle, Cornwall. Having landed in France on 21 August 1914, Gunner was quickly in action and gained a’mention’ in the despatch of Field Marshal French, dated 20 November 1914, covering the period of activity 11 October – 2 November 1914. During this period of fighting in the Armentieres-Ypres area, the 1st Battalion was prominent in and around Le Gheer and St. 17 February 1915, refers. The Battalion earned 13′mentions’, this being one of two to Privates. Gunner gained further laurels in 1915 – the Russian Medal of the Order of St. George and the Distinguished Conduct Medal. Transferred to the 8th Battalion, which landed in France in September, journey’s end would come on 6 December 1915, aged just 20. Fellow battalion member, Private J. Carpenter, also aged 20, would be killed on the same day. Gunner is buried alongside his comrade in the Chapelle-d’Armentieres New Military Cemetery and is commemorated upon the Burpham Memorial, Surrey and in Bath Abbey. Percy’s younger brother, Frank, had his leg blown off whilst serving with the Duke of Cornwalls Light Infantry just two days prior, 4 December 1915. Original WW2 US Army Medal Grouping. The grouping was found at the bottom of a box in a little tin at a local swap meet. There was no name attached to the grouping. The medals 77th infantry division patch and Infantry Branch collar disc are all used and show wear/age. Are used and show wear, The insignia all show wear/age. The CIB appears to have lost the rifle. The CIB is marked Sterling. Everything is vintage to the era. You will receive everything shown. US Army Jacket from World War Two, Eisenhower “Ike” Style wool jacket. US Army US Army Master Sergeant Insignia patches on each arm, 2nd Infantry patch, 9 years of service, 3 years overseas service, medals for good conduct, American Defense, European-African-Middle Eastern. And 4 others with too much damage to identify. Measurements taken flat with jacket buttoned- 21.5″ from armpit to armpit, 19″ across the shoulders, 20″ bottom band, 25″ long sleeves. These are the medals of Pvt. Kane of Rochester, NY. He served in Company H of the 309th Field Artillery Regt (78th Div) and the 38th Infantry Regiment, 4th Division and was wounded on October 8, 1918. The medal ribbons are faded on one side from being displayed in a frame by the family for many decades. PH is named and numbered (cannot photograph the number as it is too small, but it looks like 40688). New York State medal is also numbered (26266). Will include a copy from the Rochester, NY service record with his details (this is depicted in one of the photos I have posted here). Offered is an original medal group, as awarded to Private G Scarratt, Royal Marien Light Infantry, who served in the Persian Gulf just prior to and an armed merchantman and seaplane tender during the First World War. British War and Victory Medals impressed named PLY. Medals come with their individual medal ribbons. Fox Scarratt saw extensive service in the Persian Gulf, and afterwards participated in the support operations of the Indian Army landings at Tanga, East Africe, in November 1914, and in the subsequent hunt for the Konigsburg, in concert with H. During the war he also served afloat in H. Sutlej, January 1916 to August 1917, and in H. Riviera, armed merchantman and seaplane tender on the Dover Patrol from February 1918. Offered is an original 1908-35 India General Service Medal. 36mm wide circular silver medal with claw and ornate scroll swivel ribbon bar with original. &’WAZIRISTAN 1921 24′ clasps; the face with the crowned head and shoulders portrait of King George V facing left in coronation robes, circumscribed GEORGIUS V KAISAR-I-HIND (George V Emperor of India); the reverse with a view of Jamrud Fort and the entrance to the Khyber Pass, inscribed INDIA on a plaque below with oak and laurel branches to either side; impressed named on rim to 804 SEPOY PAHLWAN, 1/151-SIKH.
