WW2 Canadian Korean War Medal Group RCAF RCE Engineers Photographer Framed Lot. James Robert Marwick joined the RCAF as a armourer and served in Canada it would appear only. After the war he qualifed at Rivers Manitoba for his parachute wings while with the RCE. While with the RCE he became a photographer by trade and did two tours of Korea. After Korea he was sent to Los Alamos in the US for photography of the Nuclear testing. Not shown but included with this lot is a pass to enter the USA as he was post to Los Alamos. Also a copy of his service records are included with this lot. Though the medals are framed the Korean war medals are named to him which you can just see in the picture. Also included is a 5000 cups of tea from the salvation army which is named to him. A nice historical group which doesnt come up that often. A WW1 / Great War O. Orders of the White Eagle, & Nile Group of (7) Medals to Royal Engineers. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, O. (Military) Officers 1st type breast badge, silver-gilt; Military Cross, G. Unnamed as issued; 1914-15 Star 2. ; British War and Victory Medals, with M. ; Serbia, Kingdom, Order of the White Eagle, breast Badge, silver-gilt and enamel; Egypt, Kingdom, Order of the Nile, by Lattes, breast Badge, with rosette upon riband, maker’s name to reverse. Mounted as worn, good very fine (7). London Gazette 12 December 1919. London Gazette 1 January 1918. Serbian Order of the White Eagle London Gazette 19 February 1917. Having qualified as an engineer, he took work with F. Clayton of Reigate as Resident Engineer for the drainage and sewage disposal works in that town from 1901-04 before working for J. Taylor & Santo Crimp from 1904-07. A short period at Wilton followed, before the start of a long career in Egypt. Initially Assistant Engineer for design of the Cairo Main Drainage under Mr Carkeet James from 1907-10, he was thence Assistant Director of Works, 1910-13 and Chief Engineer for Port Said, 1913-14. Upon the commencement of the Great War, Hines was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant and served in France before transferring to work on the Suez Canal defences as Field Engineer of 15th Corps. Further appointment as Staff Officer to the Chief Engineer of the East Force in 1916, he was Staff Officer to the Chief Engineer of the Desert Column in 1917 and in the same role to the 21st Corps in 1917, being made Brigade Major until the conclusion of the Great War. Besides his decorations, Hines was also mentioned no less than four times (London Gazette 1 December 1916, 12 January 1918, 22 January & 5 June 1919, refers). It seems almost certain his Order of the Nile was made in respect of this work and he retired in April 1924. Taking up work back home as Manager of the Whitehall Asphalt Company building roads and thence Chief Engineer for Baldry, Yerburgh & Hutchinson building roads. Many more similar items on our website. Neck Badge, silver-gilt and enamel, extremely fine, with full neck riband, in Garrard & Co. Swing mounted, as worn, medal bar, including: 1939 – 1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence & War Medal, the last with M. Oak leaf, George V Silver Jubilee Medal, George VI Coronation medal, Elizabeth II Coronation Medal and Dutch Order of Orange – Nassau with swords (officer class) with rosette to ribbon. Large amount of copied paperwork, original passes to events, circa 1920s studio photo of Robertson in uniform (2), award document for the CBE & post war passport is included. Brigadier General Lawrence George Robertson was born in Boston, USA on the 19th March 1900. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant into the Gordon Highlanders 5/3/1919, unfortunately too late for service , transferring to the Border Regiment in 1921, the same year corps transferring to the Royal Engineers. He served WW2 in North West Europe 1939-45, earning an O. & Mention in Dispatches in 1942, promoted Colonel 1945, Brigadier 1947. Became Deputy Director Claims Commission & Inspector of Lands, War Office 1945, retiring in 1955. 1950 and confirmed Dutch Order of Nassau with Swords. Died Marylebone, London, December 1977. The silver frame is hallmarked 1930 and has silver screws but a few of them are missing which does not detract from the overall appearance. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath, C. (Military) Companions neck badge, silver-gilt and enamel; The Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire, C. Companions 3rd type neck badge, gold and enamel; India General Service 1854-95, 2 clasps, Burma 1885-7, Burma 1887-89 Lieut. ; India General Service 1908-35, 1 clasp, North West Frontier 1908 Major W. ; British War and Victory Medals, with M. Ewbank; Delhi Durbar 1911, mounted as worn where applicable. 3 June 1919: For valuable services rendered in connection with military operations in Mesopotamia. 24 April 1918: In recognition of meritorious services in Mesopotamia under the late Lieutenant-General Sir Stanley Maude. Was born in July 1865, the son of a teacher who became Principal of Patna College, India. Young William was educated at Calgary, Alberta and at Coopers Hill Engineering College, Egham, Surrey, prior to entering the R. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers in 1886, he was embarked for India, and quickly witnessed active service in the Burma operations of 1887-88 (Medal & 2 clasps). Having then been advanced to Captain in May 1893, he attended Staff College alongside such contemporaries as Allenby and Haig, prior to returning to India, where he was employed by the Foreign Office on famine relief work in Orissa 1896-97. A succession of appointments as D. In the interim, as a Major attached Military Works Service, he had served in Mohmand country during the North-West Frontier operations of 1908 (Medal & clasp).
