British India General Service Medal with Northwest Frontier Clasp to Drummer George Duncan Henderson – 2nd Seaforth Highlanders. India General Service 1908-35, 1 clasp, North West Frontier 1930-31 2815224 PTE. Some edge marks, otherwise very fine (1). George Park Duncan Henderson was born in St. Giles, Edinburgh and was a Farm Servant prior to joining the British Army. He enlisted in the Seaforth Highlanders at Glasgow on the 30th May 1924 aged 19. At the time his father lived at East Kilbride. Private Henderson served in India with the 2nd Seaforths on the North West Frontier during the Afridi Redshirt Rebellion. He was discharged on the 2nd May 1933 as a Drummer being no longer physically fit for active service. He died in 1961. Everything I have for sale is 100% original. Drummer Tyte joined at 14 years of age and served year 21 years with the battalion. 15 years of it in India & Burma, he was also court martialled and had his pay stopped for 6 months! Offered is a India General Service Medal (1854-95), 2 clasps, BURMA 1887 89, BURMA 1889 92. Period engraved 40/1521 Drumr. Comes with copies service records, court martial record and medal rolls. William Tyte was born in 1866 at Fermoy, County Cork. It is probable that his father was Sergeant William Tyte who was serving in the 37. He enlisted 2/8/1879 in London to the 37. Brigade with the service number 1521, (hence service no 40/1521), he was 14 years old, 4ft 9 inches tall at the time. The Hampshire Regiment was created in 1881 by merging the 37th (North Hampshire) Regiment of Foot and the 67th (South Hampshire) Regiment of Foot. These became the new unit’s 1st and 2nd Battalions respectively. It was probably at this date that he was given the new service number 3578. Promoted to Corporal 8/2/96. He served at the following locations. Court Martial with another drummer 20/10/1884: Breaking out of barracks, striking Sergeant, escaping custody, striking Lance Corporal, escaping arrest. 6 months stoppage of pay. 3 months remittance due to good conduct. East Indies (India) 9/1/86 2/11/88. Clasps BURMA 1887 89 & BURMA 1889 92. After the successful occupation of Burma, there were numerous small actions to put down unrest throughout the country. Discharge 21/3/1901 with his trade recorded as musician and he had now grown to 5 foot 7! The 1911 census recorded him working as house porter. He died 13/3/1951 at Willesden, Middlesex. 36mm wide circular silver medal with ornate scrolled swivel ribbon suspension bar with GOOJERAT & CHILIANWALA (see below for clasp entitlement) clasps; the face with the crowned head of Queen Victoria facing left, circumscribed VICTORIA REGINA and signed W. For William Wyon, R. Attributed on the edge in large impressed fashion to DRUM R W. M c Cullough, 29 TH FOOT. Medal comes with confirmation roll paperwork, showing 1698 Drummer McCullough served with the 29th Regiment of Foot (Worcestershire Regiment) during the Punjab Campaign and was invalided back to England on the 22nd August 1849, most likely due to disease, as many of these casualties were linked to. Rare to find a medal to a Regimental Drummer. The Punjab Medal was a campaign medal approved in 1849, for issue to officers and men of the British Army and Honourable East India Company who served in the Punjab campaign of 1848-49 operations which ended in the British annexation of the Punjab. The medal was approved on 2 April 1849, authourised for all who served in the Punjab between 7 September 1848 and 14 March 1849. Chilianwala: 13 January 1849. Awarded to troops under the command of Lord Gough who engaged with the Sikh army of Sher Singh and Lal Singh near Chilianwala. Goojerat: 21 February 1849. Awarded to troops under the command of Lord Gough who defeated the Sikh army of Sher Singh at Gujerat. We list militaria and coins weekly.
