The Order of the Phoenix Commander’s Cross Medal with Swords was established in 1941 and was awarded for distinguished services and prominent acts relating to the Military, Nautical and Air operations of Greece. Swing mounted WW1 British medal trio group to. Thomas Bowman Henry Whytehead , who served with the Royal Naval Reserve from 1902 til the end of the First World War. 1915 Star named in impressed capitals: LT. British War Medal and Victory Medal named in impressed capitals. Royal Naval Reserve Decoration (George V issue), hallmarked to reverse. Thomas Bowman Henry Whytehead was born in Auckland, New Zealand on the 22nd October 1872. He is shown to have been commissioned in the Royal Naval Reserve as a Sub-Lieutenant on the 24th November 1902. Initial stations served are H. During this time he is shown to have been a 1st mate & sailing officer on passenger ships to and from Bombay, Calcutta, Auckland, Sydney, Adelaide, Fremantle & Southampton on ships such as S. He is shown to have held several appointments on passenger ships plying the lucrative Pacific & Mediterranean routes up to the outbreak of the first World War. He resigns his commission as an officer in the R. In 1911 as a Lieutenant. The outbreak of the First World War sees Whytehead returning to the UK, being re-appointed for’Special Service’ as of 28th September 1914. He is appointed Lieutenant on special service in Queenstown, Ireland, on H. In 1915 he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander, whilst serving with H. Promoted Acting Commander, and given command of H. Strathberie, which was an armed trawler/boom defence vessel. He applied for the Royal Naval Reserve Decoration on the 1st July 1918, which was subsequently granted. Whytehead was retained on the retired list of the R. With the rank of Commander on the 11th November 1918, til his death in 1941. Thomas Whytehead is shown buried, on the 25th January 1941 in West Horsley, St Mary, Surrey, aged 69. Medals come mounted as worn and related research. The Victory Medal (also called the Inter-Allied Victory Medal) is a campaign medal – of which the basic design and ribbon was adopted by Belgium, Brazil, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Siam, Union of South Africa and the USA in accordance with decisions as taken at the Inter-Allied Peace Conference at Versailles as illustrated (a’Winged Victory) but in a particular form of this historic Greek monument as determined by each nation, with the exception of the nations in the Far East who issued the medal but with a different design.
