This is a World War One medal, and World War One began in 1914 and ended in 1918 – 100 years ago. Purple Heart Medal with official government engraving to William Shearer for wounds suffered in World War 1 (WWI). Shearer served as a Sergeant in Company I, 107th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. He was wounded in action on September 29, 1918, probably during the Somme Offensive. This is an officially government engraved purple heart. Shearer also received a Silver Star, but I do not have his Silver Star Medal. This is an American Emblem Company enameled medal with split wrap brooch. The medal is numbered 53362 Both medal and ribbon are in good condition. The ribbon drape shows some wear as you can see in the pictures. Included with the medal is the following documentation. A copy of his AGO card for his Purple Heart. A copy of his AGO card for his Silver Star. A copy of a paragraph from the history of the 107th showing his citation for the Silver Star. This will be packed securely to arrive safely. 36mm wide circular silver medal with claw and ribbon bar suspension, with campaign bar’KANDAHAR’ the face with the veiled crowned head and shoulders of Queen Victoria facing left, circumscribed VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX (Victoria Queen and Empress); the reverse with a column on the march in a mountainous landscape, an elephant bearing a cannon to the fore, circumscribed above AFGHANISTAN and dated 1878-79-80 below. Correct chisel engraved named in running script to 2122 PTE B WIGGLESWORTH 2/7TH FOOT ; on original ribbon. Small edge knock at 7 O’Clock. The medal was instituted on 19 March 1881 to be awarded to participants in the Second Afghan War of 1878 to 1880. The 2/7th Regiment of Foot served under Sir Frederick Roberts V. Being engaged in action, 1st Septemeber 1880 and also granted to those who took part in the reconnaissance of the city, 31 Ausgust 1880, but who did not take part in the attack the next day. Australian WW2 Medals – Gnr A. Robertson – 2/7th Field Regiment – North Africa. On offer is a very collectable WW2 medal group (full entitlement) for a gunner who saw action with the 2/7th Field Regiment in North Africa. The group of five medals are named to SX4819 A. Andrew Jamieson Robertson was a farm labourer who was born in Falkirk, Scotland on 4 June 1907. He moved to South Australia and enlisted in the A. After training in Palestine Robertson was involved in actions in North Africa (including Libya), against the Germans and Italians, mainly near Mersah Matruh. In early July 1942 he was involved in actions near El Alamein, then the pursuit to El Daba. He was discharged at Wayville, South Australia on 5 October 1945. His claim for war related illnesses was accepted by the Australian Repatriation Commission in October 1945 and in 1950 Robertson was employed by the Department of Works & Housing near Woomera, South Australia. Andrew Robertson died on 21 October 1990 and is buried at the Strathalbyn Cemetery, South Australia. Sudan, Boer War & WW1 Medal Group – Sjt. Allan, Cam Highrs & 27th North’d Fus. Queen’s Sudan Medal – renamed to 3225 Pte. Queen’s South Africa Medal (Clasps – Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Wittebergen, Transvaal) – renamed to 3225 Pte. King’s South Africa Medal (Clasps – South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902) – renamed to 3225 Pte. British War Medal – correctly named to 27-7 Sjt. Allan, North’d Fus. WW1 Victory Medal – correctly named to 27-7 Sjt. Khadives Sudan Medal (Clasp – Khartoum) – renamed to 3225 Pte. Allan originally served with the Cameron Highlanders. In the First World War he served with the 27th Bn. (Tyneside Irish) Northumberland Fusiliers and his service number was 7! He was wounded (gun shot wound) on the 1st day of the Somme and evacuated to base 02/07/1916. The WW1 medals are correctly named but unfortunately the Sudan and Boer War medals have all been renamed. All of the medals are genuine and are swing mounted for wear on original ribbons. There is no doubt that these are the medals that Sjt. Allan would have worn. Comes with copy research.
