Information on Stafford Roll of Service for World War One tells us he died of wounds on 23 August 1916 at Deans Hill (Battle of the Somme) , age 30. He is also commemorated in a poem by Marlborough College war poet John Bain’In Memory of Captain F. Benham , Died of Wounds’. CONDITION: The medals are on original ribbon which bears traces of glue , indicating that they have at some point been part of a framed display. The Victory Medal has an oxidised finish instead of the usual gilt, and this may be original or be the result of being kept in damp conditions. Condition otherwise is excellent.
