Offered for sale is a unique set to one German soldier Sebastian Hofer, 2nd Reserve Infantry Regiment, killed in action on 13 April 1918 by an artillery shell, at the age of 37 years and 4 months old in1918, including the very hard to find and very rare Memorial Cup, these were the equivalent of the British WW1 death plaques. Engraved with the soldiers’ name and date of death 13 April 1918 with a separately attached miniature iron cross to the front, silver hallmark stamp of 800 to the base. Set also includes his death card with a photo of him and his iron cross 2nd class, maker marked “M” to an as yet unidentified maker, correct 3 piece construction with a magnetic core. The above recipient was also entitled to the military merit cross, as noted on the card. The 2nd Reserve Infantry Regiment appears to have been part of the 3rd Reserve Division, which at the time of Sebastian Hofers death is recorded as having been positioned in a trench system to the north of Ailette, France, near the Chemin Des Dames in the Aisne area.
