Rare Named Orig WW2 Military Cross MC Medal Group RCR Royal Canadian Regiment

Rare original WW2 “Military Cross – MC” medal group that is named to “Acting Major John Gerald Stevens” who won it serving with the “RCR – Royal Canadian Regiment”. Only 9 Military Crosses were awarded to this unit during WW2. The group has been plated and the MC is named John G. It is a great combat won citation that reads. Captain (Acting Major) John Gerald Stevens was Brigade major of 7 Canadian Infantry Brigade from 3 August 1944 to 11 April 1945 and during the period from 1 February 1945 was involved in a number of major engagements. This Officer was responsible for all the detailed planning of the part played by its Brigade in Operation Veritable and the care and forethought displayed by him was most certainly partially responsible for the success of the operation. On many occasions Major Stevens was subjected to enemy small arms and mortar fire whilst obtaining information from the battalions when normal communications were extended. One such instance occurred on 28 February 1945 when 7 Canadian Infantry Brigade was ordered to take over ground from 11 Armoured Division near Sonsbeck Germany, The Brigade had no means of communication with this Division and only very scanty information was available. Reconnaissance and contact patrols had been sent out to liaise with the Monmouthshire Regiment but they could not be located. Major Stevens realizing the necessity of obtaining this information in order that the Brigadier could make his plans, volunteered to contact 11 Armoured Division. The speed of the advance of the Brigade had left many isolated pockets of resistance and in the darkness of the night the journey was extremely hazardous. On ay least 5 occasions the car in which this Officer was riding was fired on by riflemen and machine gunners but except for a few holes in the body of the vehicle the occupants escaped injury. After about an hour drive Major Stevens encountered a Company of one of the Battalions of the Brigade was to relieve and after being passed on to the Brigade headquarters of the Battalion he obtained the full dispositions of the 3 Battalions, thereby enabling 7 Canadian Infantry Brigade to complete the relief by first light the following morning. The service rendered by Major Stevens during the entire time he was Brigade Major was outstanding and the assistance which he gave to the Battalions was invaluable. His energy, loyalty and cheerfulness was at all times worthy of the highest praise. Please wait until the INVOICE is sent to you. Again, wait until INVOICE is sent. Please use common sense.
