This 73mm choice about uncirculated medal was designed by James Earle Frasier, the designer of the US Buffalo Nickel, for Williams College in Amhurst, MA. It features US soldiers charging out of a trench with fixed bayonets on the obverse. While the reverse shows an imaginary rendition of COL Ephraim Williams, the founder of the school, on horseback. A total of 1726 medals were issued. Supposedly one for each Williams College Alumni who went into the military during the war. Some have the name of the recipient engraved on the edge. This one does not. It has a beautiful mahogany patina, with a few very small spots where the patina is rubbed off. All in all it is a beautiful example of this quite rare and sought after medal..
