HMS Stanley sunk by U-574 Casualty Group 19/12/41. Charles Whittaker nearly mint. He was killed in action on 19th December 1941 when the destroyer H. Stanley was sunk by U-574 while escorting Convoy HG76 to Gibraltar and with no known grave is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. Prior to the sinking Stanley had participated in the sinking of U-131 on 17th December and U-434 on 18th December. U-574 was sunk just 12 minutes after sinking Stanley by H. With original Admiralty condolence transmittal slip and Admiralty box of issue addressed to his mother Mrs A.
