These medals were obtained by a friend, from the family of the recipient who was active in The Merchant Marine during WW1 presumed to have been a Navigational Officer while at sea. He later became a PIONEER AVIATOR and perished with CTP Ulm(Seen in 1930′s Cigarette Card). A large search by many concerned fellow aviators failed to ever find the exact crash site and so the bodies were never recovered. NOT DISSIMILAR to Amelia Earhart but less well-known :.
