Mounted as originally worn, with two shooting Medals. With some research, copy Coronation 1953 Medal roll entry (first named Alfred Cyril, same service number). Albert Cyril Foden was born in Bishampton, Pershore, Worcestershire in 1912. His Second World War Medals indicate he served with the 2nd Battalion in India and Burma and the 1st Battalion in North West Europe. Promoted Warrant Officer 1st Class (Regimental Sergeant Major) 1st April 1952, Long Service and Good Conduct Medal awarded in Army Order 88 of 1950 with a qualifying date of 23rd April 1948 TNA WO102/29 refers. Meritorious Service Medal awarded in Army Order 76 of 1956. The Regiment became the Worcester and Sherwood Foresters Regiment in 1970. Albert died in Bath, Somerset 23rd August 1978. Copy of a newspaper article from the Yorkshire Evening Post of August 4, 1949, states’The troopship Empire Halladale reached Liverpool to-day with two of the wounded from the Yangtse River battle – Stoker Thomas Main (26), Newcastle, who received shrapnel wounds while serving in H. London, and Able Seaman Eric Rimington (20), Leicester, who received multiple gunshot wounds while serving in the Amethyst. The Empire Halladale also carried 1,000 Servicemen and 268 civilian passengers, including some Service families and refugees from Shanghai.
