FULL SIZE MEDALS NAMED IN THE CORRECT STYLES FOR THE ARMY (1915 STAR)AND RAF (WAR AND VICTORY)WITH ORIGINAL SILK RIBBONS AS WORN BY THE RECIPIENT IN AN OLD CONTEMPORARY WOODEN CASE. AWARDED TO LIEUT AND CAPTAIN C. TURNER WORCESTERSHIRE REGIMENT AND RFC.. A SCARCE AWARD ON 10TH OCTOBER 1916 FOR A TRENCH RAID AGAINST THE MAMELON WITH THE AIM OF CAPTURING A PRISONER AND IDENTIFYING TROOPS IN THE ENEMY FRONT LINE. TURNER PUSHED FORWARD UP THE RAVINE TOWARDS THE MAMELON. THEY GOT WITHIN A SHORT DISTANCE OF THE ENEMY AND THEN CHARGED.. THEY WERE MET BY FIERCE FIRE FROM ABOUT 70 RIFLES AND MANY BOMBS. ONE BOMB KILLED PRIVATE RUDD ANOTHER WOUNDED CAPTAIN LEICESTER AND TWO OF HIS MEN. AFTER A SHORT FIGHT IT WAS REALISED SUCCESS WAS IMPOSSIBLE AND THE RAIDERS FELL BACK BEHIND COVER. IT WAS THEN FOUND PRIVATE RUDD WAS MISSING BELIEVED WOUNDED AND LEFT BEHIND. LIEUTENANT TURNER ACCOMPANIED BY PRIVATE HARTLAND BRAVELY WENT BACK, THEY FOUND RUDD WAS DEAD A FEW YARDS IN FRONT OF THE ENEMIES TRENCHES. AFTER RUNNING THE GAUNTLET OF A SHARP FIRE THEY REJOINED THE REST OF THE PARTY. FOR THEIR GALLANT CONDUCT CAPTAIN LEICESTER RECEIVED THE ITALIAN SILVER MEDAL FOR VALOUR AND LIEUTENANT TURNER THE FRENCH CROIX DE GUERRE AND PALM. PRIVATE HARTLAND THE MM. LIEUTENANT TURNER WAS WOUNDED BY SHRAPNEL IN THE RIGHT ARM AT STRUMA, DOIRAN, SALONIKA ON THE 11TH NOVEMBER 1916 REQUIRING SURGERY TO REMOVE THE SPLINTER. PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN IN SEPTEMBER 1917 AND TRANSFERRED TO THE RAF IN FEBRUARY 1918. COMES WITH MUCH RESEARCH OFFICERS PAPERS AND COPY PHOTOS OF TURNER AND LEICESTER IN DOIRAN SALONIKA.
