Offered is a swing mounted as worn medal group of 8 to James Jones, who served in both the British Army during WW1 and Royal Navy during WW2. 1914-15 Star, impressed named to 50928, DVR. British War and Victory Medals, impressed named to 50928 DVR. 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45 (last 4 un-named as issued); Royal Naval Reserve L. 1st issue, impressed named to 211 E. James Ernest George Jones was born in Plymouth, Devon, in July 1898. He enlisted at the age of 18 at Plymouth 19th September 1914 and served during the Great War with the Royal Engineers on the Western Front from 5 July 1915 with the 18th (Eastern Division) Signal Company. Included is a copy of his service record (burnt record type). After the war he was employed as a fisherman, and also joined the Royal Naval Reserve at Milford Haven in February 1924. He was awarded his R. Jones was mobilised as an Engineman with the outbreak of the Second World War, and after postings to Chatham and H. Eaglet at Liverpool, he was posted to the trawler Lady Beryl in October 1939. Jones went with the Lady Beryl to operate out of Trinidad in June 1944. He was demobilized in December 1945. Rare original US grouping Captain Charles W. Albright, Captain Quartermaster Corps: (1) Named WW1 service medal from Verona New Jersey. Solid 10k and so stamped on the rim. The medal measures approximately 1 1/8 in diameter. Well made, nice detail. Hand engraved to Albright. Tarnish and minor wear. The ribbon is soiled. (2) US Army Spanish War Campaign medal, officially impressed 7591, at 6 oclock on the rim. Tarnish with some rubbing to the high areas. The ribbon is faded and soiled. (3) US WW1 Victory medal with FRANCE clasp. The medal shows tarnish with some dark areas and rubbing to the high points. The original ribbon is very frayed. (4) New Jersey WW1 service medal. The medal is tarnished with some dark spots. The original ribbon is soiled overall. (5) New York Spanish War Service Medal, numbered 3619 on the clasp. The medal shows heavy tarnish and surface dirt. Dark spots, not attractive, weak strike. The ribbon shows soiling. (6) New York National Guard 14th Infantry Regiment Bronze, 100% Duty medal, bar 1898. Measures approximately 1 1/4 across the suspension bar and 2 3/8 from the very top to the bottom. (7) Tiffany marked, New York National Guard Marksman Medal, 1 year bar, Sharpshooter 1 year bar, USV 1898 bar. In Nice example of this medal. Measures approximately 1 1/2 across the suspension bar and 3 7/8 from the very top to the bottom of the entire piece. (8) WW1 Service Bronze medal from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, named to Albright and mounted as a fob. Die struck, well made. (9) Original paper carton for the Victory medal, crushed and torn. Original case for the Spanish War Service medal, crushed and stained. Original case for one of the New York medals, crushed, torn and stained. Research notes by Albert Gleim for a requesting collector. Boer War Queens South Africa Medal, four campaign clasps CAPE COLONY , ORANGE FREE STATE, TRANSVAAL & SOUTH AFRICA 1902 impressed named to 3429 PTE T. Bedford was born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire. He attested for the Scots Guards at Liverpool in June 1900 and served in South Africa, January-October 1902. Promoted L/Cpl 22nd January 1901, demoted by order of the Commanding Officer 14th May 1901. Of note, he was able to pay 18 pounds to be discharged on the 22nd December 1902, after only 2 years and 197 days service, which was a grand sum for a private soldier at the time. Swing mounted WW1 medal trio group to. George Thomas Cubitt, who served with the Royal Naval Reserve from 1902 til the end of the First World War. 1915 Star named in impressed capitals: 63250 PTE. British War Medal and Victory Medal named in impressed capitals. Medals mounted onto a JR Gaunt of Montreal Medal bar. George Thomas Cubitt was born at Dillham, Norfolk, and emigrated to Canada before the war and worked in lumber camps in Northern Saskatchewan. He enlisted at Calgary on 3 November 1914. He served in France with the 14th Canadian Infantry from 23 February 1915 and was wounded by a shell in the trenches on 13 June 1916. The 191415 Star was approved in 1918, for issue to officers and men of British and Imperial forces who served in any theatre of the War between 5 August 1914 and 31 December 1915 (other than those who had already qualified for the 1914 Star). The British war Medal was approved in 1919, for issue to officers and men of British and Imperial forces who had rendered service between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918. Officers and men of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, and Dominion and Colonial naval forces (including reserves) were required to have completed 28 days mobilised service the medal was automatically awarded in the event of death on active service before the completion of this period. The medal was later extended to cover the period 191920 and service in mine-clearing at sea as well as participation in operations in North and South Russia, the eastern Baltic, Siberia, the Black Sea, and the Caspian. The Victory Medal (also called the Inter-Allied Victory Medal) is a campaign medal – of which the basic design and ribbon was adopted by Belgium, Brazil, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Siam, Union of South Africa and the USA in accordance with decisions as taken at the Inter-Allied Peace Conference at Versailles as illustrated (a’Winged Victory) but in a particular form of this historic Greek monument as determined by each nation, with the exception of the nations in the Far East who issued the medal but with a different design. The dates of the war were in every case 1914 to 1918, except that of the British Empire, which gave the dates as illustrated (1914 to 1919 with 1921 being the year in which the war ended in point of Parliamentary law but in 1919 under common law relating to the status and functions of the monarchy).
