The Knight’s Cross of Virtuti Militari (3rd Class), made in Italy by Picchiani & Barlacchi of Florence. Wonderful condition with minimal wear, as in photographs. Award in the shape of the cross, in the center a crowned white enameled eagle with wings spread. Enameled black arms is an inscription in gold letter “Virtuti Militari”. The reverse has clear arms, the center medallion has a laurel leaves crown, with an inscription in the center “Honor i Ojczyzna 1792″, meaning Honor and Fatherland 1792. A three piece construction, separate medallions applied to the front and back. A British production ribbon.

Has the incorrect ribbon; being that of the Venezuelan Order of Merit in Work (Orden al Mérito en el Trabajo), which appears to be a nice piece of original ribbon, but slightly colour faded. 58mm wide four armed cross in silver gilt, encompassed by a superposed enameled black cross, obverse centre exhibiting a red enamel symbol of the Yoke and Arrows with Latin inscription CAESARIS CAESARI DEI DEO (To Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God), with plain reverse, with integral ring, suspended by original red-black ribbon on a traditional Spanish-style horizontal pinback hanger. The enamelling & gilt finish on this cross is superb, the ebst I’ve seen of this order and scarce. The Imperial Order of the Yoke and Arrows (Orden Imperial del Yugo y las Flechas) was originally instituted as the Great Order of the Red Arrows by General Francisco Franco on October 10, 1937. It was regulated and renamed Imperial Order of the Yoke and Arrows on January 27, 1943. The Order was awarded to Spaniards and foreigners either citizens or military personnel, in recognition of outstanding services rendered to Spain during Francos government. It was considered the most prestigious award within Spain for military and civil service during Franco’s period. The grades were Collar, Grand Cross, Commander with Plaque, Commander, and Medal. All the ranks were awarded by foreign recipients. The Order was awarded last time on October 1, 1975. Known recipients of the Order include Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Víctor Manuel III of Italy, and Heinrich Himmler. The Order features a Latin obverse inscription that can be translated to To Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God. WW2 Iron Cross Knights Cross 1955 Version, which was given to veterans following the war. It has a silver frame, three piece construction with a magnetic core. Silver frame is also marked 800. Comes with the suspension ring and ribbon for west. The core is NOT MAGNETIC. That said ST&L iron crosses post war could be both magnetic and non magnetic. A quick internet search on this topic can be found easily. Also the iron cores, in later models were painted with a black enamel, which this one shows.
