Birkhadur Gurung, 1-5 G. The British 1939-45 Star was awarded to any military personnel serving for six months in an operational command between September 3, 1939, and September 2, 1945. Operational service brought to an end through death, disability, or wound, also qualified for the award of the 1939-45 Star, irrespective of length of service. The British Burma Star was awarded to military personnel who served in Burma, China, or Malaya between December 11, 1941, and September 2, 1945. The British 1939-45 War Medal was awarded to all full time personnel of the Armed Forces serving for 28 days or more, between September 3, 1939, and September 2, 1945. The Indian Independence Medal, 1947 was issued to commemorate the Independence of India. The medals are mounted for wear with official ribbons and are in extremely fine condition. A Waziristan 1921 operations Military Cross group of three awarded to Lieutenant L. Jennings, Indian Army, who was attached to the 48th Pioneers at the time of winning his decoration. Un named as issued; BRITISH WAR MEDAL 1914-20 impressed named to Lieut. JENNINGS; INDIA GENERAL SERVICE 1908-35, 2 clasps, Afghanistan N. 1919, Waziristan 1919-21 impressed named to 2/Lt. Just 29 Military Crosses were awarded in 1921 for the Waziristan operations – British Gallantry Awards, by Abbott & Tamplin, refers. London Gazette 21 April 1921: For conspicuous gallantry on 4 January 1921, near Jandola, when he held on to an advanced sangar which had been vacated by the covering troops, thus enabling the wounded to get away, and though heavily fired upon from three directions he continued to hold his position until severely wounded in the face. He then brought in the remainder of his party. Lewis Wensley Bond Jennings was commissioned on the Unattached List in August 1918 and gained an appointment in the 64th Pioneers in the following month. He was, however, attached to the 48th Pioneers at the time of his M. Winning exploits near Jandola in early January 1921. Very probably as a result of his severe wounds, Jennings was placed on the Retired List with effect of December 1923 (London Gazette 25 July 1924 refers). Offered is an original 1903-04 Tibet Expedition Campaign & 1908 India General Service Medal to Conductor C S Ford, who served with the Supply &Transport Corps 1903 Tibet Expedition. 36mm wide circular silver medal with affixed claw and ornate scroll swivel ribbon bar suspension, RETAINING THE CAMPAIGN BAR’GYANTSE’; the face with the head and shoulders of King Edward VII facing left in field marshals uniform, showing some staining to face, circumscribed EDWARDUS VII KAISAR-I-HIND (Edward VII Emperor of India); the reverse with a view of the city of Lhasa, circumscribed below TIBET 1903-4; officially re-impressed naming to rim: CONDUCTOR C.
