Offered is an original 1854 India General Service Medal, to Private Fraser, who served in the 2nd Battalion of the Seaforth Highlanders during the Hazara campaign of 1888. 36mm wide circular silver medal with ornate scrolled swivel ribbon suspension bar with HAZARA 1888. Clasp; the face with the crowned head of Queen Victoria facing left, circumscribed VICTORIA REGINA and signed W. For William Wyon, R. Highrs; on correct ribbon. The medal in exceptionally fine, toned condition. The medal comes with copies of his service record showing Alexander Fraser was born Rosskeen, Ross in 1863, he enlisted 1/6/1882 with the 2nd Battalion Seaforth Highlanders with a regimental number of 602. He served England 1/6/82 27/2/1883. During his time in India he served in the Hazara Campaign as a signaller. The first phase of the campaign ended with the Hassanzai and Akazai tribes requesting an armistice on October 19, 1888. The second phase of the campaign targeted the tribes that lived north of Black Mountain such as the Allaiwals. The campaign ended when the Allaiwal village of Pokal was occupied and destroyed by the British on November 2 and 3, 1888. He re-enlisted on the 28/3/1900 with a short term enlistment to the 1st Battalion Royal Scottish Reserve Regiment with a regimental number of 1106, Discharged 7/3/01. Re enlisted with the Royal Garrison Regiment with number 231, 8/3/1901 to 14/5/01 Home service. He was charged twice as a junior soldier in India. 1/5/1886 at Moradabad for Farting in the ranks awarded 3 days CB & 21/5/1888 at Bureilly Drinking in C Coy lines after tattoo. Royal Reserve battalions were formed from veteran soldiers in the United Kingdom for Home Service. After the Royal Reserve Regiments were phased out, the Royal Garrison Regiment was formed, to relieve regular infantry battalions in overseas garrisons like Malta and Gibraltar. Many of the RGR’s members had previously been in one of the Royal Reserve Regiments. A time expired soldier who answered the call again when the Boer War broke out. It is possible that he is entitled to the Queen’s Mediterranean Medal. This was authorised by King Edward VII and was awarded to Militia troops who had replaced their regular Army counterparts in the various military garrisons across the Mediterranean, in Gibraltar, Malta and Egypt. Companions 3rd type neck badge, gold and enamel; India General Service 1854-95, 2 clasps, Burma 1885-7, Burma 1887-89 Lieut. ; India General Service 1908-35, 1 clasp, North West Frontier 1908 Major W. ; British War and Victory Medals, with M. Ewbank; Delhi Durbar 1911, mounted as worn where applicable. 3 June 1919: For valuable services rendered in connection with military operations in Mesopotamia. 24 April 1918: In recognition of meritorious services in Mesopotamia under the late Lieutenant-General Sir Stanley Maude. Maxime Weygand : born in Brussels on January 21, 1867, died in Paris on January 28, 1965, is a French general officer, member of the French Academy. He played a major role during the two world wars. Marshal Foch’s right-hand man at the end of the First World War, he was commissioned, on November 11, 1918, to read the conditions of the armistice in Rethondes to the German delegation. Named by Paul Reynaud May 19, 1940 commander-in-chief of the French army to replace General Gamelin, he can not prevent defeat at the Battle of France. He was then the first to declare himself an armistice supporter (as in the First World War) with Germany. On June 17, 1940, he becomes Minister of War of the Petain government, prepares the signing of the Armistice Treaty on June 22, then participates for two months in the Vichy government, before being appointed on September 4, 1940 commander for Africa. North where he creates and organizes the army of Africa in relation with the American and British services. Recalled and relieved by Petain of his command under German pressure in November 1941, he was placed under house arrest in a villa in Provence where he received a letter from President Roosevelt asking him to continue his action. Arrested by the Gestapo on the eve of the invasion of the southern zone by the Germans on 11 November 1942, he was deported to Germany and interned until the end of the war. Arrested on his return from Germany, accused of high treason and imprisoned by the Gaullists, he benefits from a no place, becomes the defender of the memory of Marshal Pétain, then the support of supporters of French Algeria during the war. Offered is an original 1918-62 General Service Medal for the Iraq & N. Persia campaigns to a member of the Royal Irish Fusiliers. 36 mm wide circular cupro-nickel medal with ornate scrolled ribbon suspension bar with IRAQ & N. The medal is impressed named to: 33256 PTE. Issacs McCandless served with the Royal Engineers (Inland Water Transport) during the First World War and was transferred to the Royal Irish Fusiliers (most likely to the 2nd battalion). In 1919 the 2nd Battalion was sent to Iraq, moving on to Egypt and Turkey before settling in India for nine years in 1923. The medal was originally instituted on 19 January 1923 to be awarded to Army and Air Force personnel involved in small conflicts outside Africa and India where a separate campaign medal was not issued. The Iraq clasp was presented to those who satisfied one of the following conditions: Served at Ramadi or north of a line east and west through Ramadi between 10 December 1919 and 13 June 1920. Part of an establishment within Iraq between 1 July and 17 November 1920. Persia clasp was presented to members of NoPerForce (North Persia Force) and those on various lines of communications serving under Brigadier-General Hugh Bateman-Champain from 10 August to 31 December 1920. Offered is an original 1918-62 General Service Medal for the South Persia Campaign to a member of the Coke’s Rifles (Frontier Force). 36 mm wide circular cupro-nickel medal with ornate scrolled ribbon suspension bar with S. The medal is impressed named to: 2385 L. The medal was originally instituted on 19 January 1923 to be awarded to Army and Air Force personnel involved in small conflicts outside Africa and India where a separate campaign medal was not issued. The South Persia campaign bar was awarded for service at or near Bushire with Major-General J. Douglas and Brigadier-General A. Elsmie from 12 November 1918 22 June 1919. The bar also accounted for service at or near Bandar Abbas with Major-General Sir Percy Sykes or Lieutenant Colonel E. Orton from 12 November 1918 3 June 1919. We list militaria and coins weekly.
