DREW FIRST SERVED OVERSEAS WITH THE SUFFOLK REGIMENT AND IS ENTITLED TO A PAIR & TERRITORIAL FORCE WAR MEDAL TO THE SUFFOLK REGIMENT. THE AWARD OF HIS DCM WAS PUBLISHED IN THE LONDON GAZETTE 11-3-1920. WITH THE FOLLOWING CITATION. Whilst on a daylight patrol with his platoon commander & rifle section on the 15th September 1918 near oppy, they suddenly came under heavy rifle, grenade & machine gun fire from the enemy’s lines less than 70 yards away. One man was killed and another was seriously wounded, and the party had to be still in shell holes for seven hours. He then volunteered to go back & bring up stretcher bearers. On his return after searching for some hours under heavy machine gun fire, located and got back the wounded officer & men. THE RECIPIENT WAS A NATIVE OF ALDEBURGH BUT WHEN HE APPLIED FOR HIS MEDALS IN 1920 HE GAVE A HOME ADDRESS IN NEW WORTLEY, LEEDS, WEST YORKSHIRE.
