Offered is a Great War D. Group of four awarded to Lieutenant-Colonel T. Donnelly, Royal Field Artillery, late Royal Garrison Artillery, who was twice Mentioned in Despatches and wounded in 1917. Distinguished Service Order, (G. V. R); 1914 Star, with clasp impressed named LIEUT: T. British War and Victory Medals, with M. Oak leaves impressed named MAJOR T. Court mounted for display. Comes with copy M. Medal rolls, London Gazettes, casualty book, seniority list, D. Book reference & fathers military history. London Gazette 15/6/1916 & 18/5/1917. Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Donnelly was born 4/4/1883, the son of Major General Sir John Donnelly, Royal Engineers M. Sir Donnelly had served in the Crimean war being thrice mentioned in despatches and recommended for the Victoria Cross (unsuccessfully) for his part in the assault at the Redan. Thomas Donnelly was commissioned on 21/12/1901 into the Royal Artillery, a few months prior to his father’s death. Promoted Lieutenant in 1904 he landed in France on 21/9/1914 with the Royal Garrison Artillery. Promoted Captain on 30/10/1914, mentioned in despatches 15/6/1916. 4/6/17 whilst acting Major & promoted Major 1/5/1917 with another M. 1917 wounded in action, with a gunshot wound to his buttocks and admitted to Queen Alexandra’s Military Hospital at Millbank discharging from there 25/5/1917. Posted to the Ministry of Ammunition 3/8/1917 (probably as a result of his wound). Promoted Brevet Lt Colonel 3/6/1919. His last address being Drill Hall Woodbridge Rd, Ipswich.
